TMB 204J 411 Variant new owner

Post by weimarbus » 11th February 2021 - 9:21am

Hi everyone, I've a long history with aircooled and T25 VW 's, starting with being in a carry cot in my fathers 1947 beetle. Just wonderered if anyone on here knows any history regarding TMB 204J, i have seen a couple of pictures on here in the gallery from a few years ago, one when it was white and one when it was black. For me it was a don't mix red wine and fleabay' purchase and I have no idea where to start, it currently has a diy fuel injection system fitted with a rats nest of wiring, coil pack instead of a distributor and apparently missing control unit near the battery with disconnected wires here and in the engine compartment. I have no idea whether it has ever run with this setup or were to start with no wiring info. I have a complete injection system with harness and distributor from a T25 MV engine which is known to work and think working with this is the easiest way forward. Any advise gratefully received.

Welcome,though a little belatedly, I assume you are an 80-90 refugee ?

411 has a D-Jet ignition system, very different to the Digijet, both electrically and physically - are you happy messing with wiring ?

Photos are always welcome & can help us assess what might be the best way forward

I have some 411 stuff on the shelf so may be able to help out with some bits too - quite a few on here have their own stash

Hi David, thank you for the welcome, yes you guessed correctly, I'm also on 80-90. I could never get my head around photos on 80-90 until the recent change but will try to post some later. To revert to the original D-Jet I would need a working 411 distributor, ecu and wiring harness. I'm happy to do wiring etc if I have a diagram to work from, my T25 has LPG conversion, central locking, electric power steering, electric windows and additional cockpit gauges fitted by me over the years, but I am basically an old school dinosaur ( happy with points and carbs ) when it comes to the running side of things :)

That doesn't seem so bad

I will need to check, but I am reasonably sure I have an ECU and intact wiring harness from a 1971 D-Jet 411 on the shelf.

If you could get a distributor from someone else all you need are the wiring diagrams. We have one at http://www.vwtype3and4club.org.uk/wire411US72-.php which is essentially what you get in a Haynes manual

Other wiring diarams are on Samba & I have stitched some of those together to make one big current flow diagram. German text though, not too difficult to translate by comparison

Photos on here can be added as attachments & are stored here if you don't have external storage

I saw the response to your wanted ad so thought you might want a D-Jet manual.....
