Re: 1971 Type 3.
Thanks all for the pics / info.
OK so the small diameter pipe that goes into the mixer at the front. I've left this connected and plugged the pipes toward the back of the car. So at least the airflow won't reverse now when the mixer boxes gets above the appropriate temp.
Chino: Thanks for the info, orange heat exchanger pipes working well still. Loving the Cyclone exhaust, it's great. Just making sure the rest of the heating is connected right. And trying to understand it!
Didn't get those parts that purplepeter has mentioned with the car, doh! God knows what happend to them. Will have a hunt around for some.
I don't think it's urgent, as it is it just picks the air from the engine bay rather than from the fan output. Pic is below. But If I use it in cold weather would prefer to get that bit working.
Cheers all.

Oh that one! I wouldn't worry unduly. I ran mine of years as my daily driver with out it. Obviously it nice to have it all installed but I wont go causing you huge problems during the colder months

Thanks Broady, OK I'll not worry too much.
Peter: Well spotted. Yes chokes are on my shopping list if I ever see some for sale.
Cheers

Re: 1971 Type 3.
Some news. I've loved this Red Fasty. It's got me back into classic aircooled again (Previously I've had Beetles, T2,s and a KG.) but I've been lusting over a more perfect earlier example of late. It would be a waste to try and bring this one to near- concourse standard, as it's really good as is and doesn't need pulling apart for many years. Also the paint and body is too good to justify the expense or redoing it just now.
A really good 67 Fastback came up locally, and I took a look. It was mint and is just what I want (other than suspension). So I bought it. Ooops. Just needs a some minor jobs on the suspension and it will be perfect.
So Ruby is up for sale.
I put an ad on ebay. Probably not the best time to sell though. If it doesn't go soon then I'll just keep her stored for the winter and try again in the spring.
So if any one is looking for a sorted 71 fasty that drives really well then take a look at this one.
I'll post pics / details of my new purchase in a new thread.
Cheers.

Well that's a bit of a surprise.

Sorry chaps... I'm still up to my eyeballs sorting out the house that I sold her originally to help fund, otherwise I'd be in there like a rat up a drainpipe! Also I may have foolishly agreed on another project for 2019 (that I'm yet to tell the wife about), sadly watercooled but a bit more practical and something I've wanted to own for a long time...with a VR6 engine in....Best of luck with the sale Jake, looks like you've done a nice job on the bits I didn't get round to(and a better job on some of the bits I did)!
