Hoping so. Should look ok with some paint on. :D

Gutted tonight, busted my passenger wing mirror whilst trying to sort the floppyness :tear: :tear:
:( :(

I stripped the small stud thread. I might be able to cut it off and drill and tap a thread for a new stud. Otherwise I’ll be praying Danny Lord has one

Couple of updates.

i fixed my wing mirror, thankfully. I cut the old arm stud off flush, drilled and tapped a new hole and whacked in some new m6 threaded rod (with a bit of loctite). :D :D :D

Seems to be holding up pretty well. So I've been able to tighten both aspects of the mirror up so that it's no longer floppy and added a body seal to both mirrors.

Looks much cleaner with the seals fitted.

Pretty pleased with sorting this out.

Also decided to paint my discs and calipers.

As they are Porsche pattern discs with Porsche spacers on too, I thought it'd look nicer them being the same colour, plus the new discs just get surface rust on them so easily.

Pretty please how they turned out.

This weekend gone, I did a bit of work on the engine and engine bay.

I decided to get rid of the tired engine cover temperature foam that I'd held together with some silver foil tape during the resto. Fitted with some new stuff from ebay and a roll of silver temp cloth tape (Much better tape).

Image

Pretty happy how it turned out.

I was also fed up of the engine cover being lop sideded when ever I hooked it up, so I fab'd another hook up and welded it on and painted it. The engine cover now sits nice and straight when open.

Image

Next I tackled the intake manifold, as for some reason when I had the engine out and re-painted everything, the manifold silver went a bit funny :paranoid: :paranoid:
So, masked up and re-painted.

And then detailed the engine a bit by, using loom tape on some of the cables and wiping down all the dust that had accumulated.

Nice work.
Have you got a link for the engine cover insulation?

Not the same seller, but looks the same product
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 119489272

I paid about £12, not sure why there’s no more on ebay at that price. Good stuff though.

I also bought some quality silver cloth tape from amazon Reinforced Aluminium Foil Adhesive Tap ... vEbVVTE1FZ

Smart work! I need to do something similar with one of my mirrors. Id been trying to pin the bit of stud in, But if loctite works then ill do that. Much less agro! Forgive me for asking, but is it wise to paint the face of the brake disc?

The engine looks fantastic, is it still running a treat?

The stud seems to be holding well. Only time and vibration will tell.

I’m aware that you shouldn’t paint the disc face was just easier to paint. It’s only a light dusting, and I intend to wipe it down with some scotchbrite before I fit the wheels.

Engine is running sweet. Although I’ve had a few plugs out this winter, so I hope it fires up and runs when everything is finished :?

So been a while since my last update. Over the last 2 weeks I've been mainly bodywork and paint.

1. Fixed the previously poor work around the rear quarter torsion holes (and fit new cover plates).
2. Skimmed the sills so that the bodylines are a bit better.
3. Skimmed, painted the front/valance after welding up the holes.

I went to a localish Auto supplies who colour matched my fuel filler flap (Car had been previously painted back early 2000's but not to original colour)
Bought 2 litres of cellulose equivalent paint.

So here's some pictures.

I thought I'd take the opportunity to fit the sill chrome trim, something I'd never got round to doing when I did the original resto.
Was a bit nerve racking drilling into the panels, especially the new sills.
8mm holes to match the new clips I got (I think from Simon Kelley)
After paint though, the clips were ok fitting in, but the little centre piece you push in was really tight. So rather than open up the hole to 8.5mm I just used a hand file on the clips to give me some extra clearance. Worked a treat.

Also, whilst I've built an air tank build in the wheel well, I've fitted some M5 rivnuts so that I don't have to go behind if I ever need to remove the number plate and holder.

I'm by no means a pro painter, I'd say I'm competent, but I'm really pretty chuffed how it's come out. Colour match is fantastic, you can't even see where I've blended in to the rear quarters (After a flat and polish)

Not to everyone's taste, but I like it alot 8)

Unbelievable amount of time to get to this stage, must be 4 weeks work? (Evenings and weekends)

And I hadn't realised I'd not update with the front build progress either, so here's some pics:

Rubbed down my existing air tank and painted red, it's not come out too bad if I do say so myself.

Does look very slick! Theres nothing stopping you from using it to go food shopping. I've used my 944 for a food shop just to give it a run out.

Yeah, time and money can solve most things.

Do you know how much you have spent on her (not asking, just interested if you have done the add up)
