for sure mate, eventually, only back to it's original colour or another year correct colour.
It's difficult to know it's original colour though, birth certificate says white but the whole car, under carpets, engine bay, everywhere is orange. I reckon it manufactured in white but painted orange by VW Australia before it was supplied to first owner, orange ones have always been my fave so prob orange, saves changing whole interior to cream as I would have to with a brown colour change. Year specific orange I think. Last one I had I painted L28N, Jeans orange over it's original orange but I want to be year specific this time around. Or maybe white and Orange....dunno, will be painted but truth is don't know what yet.

Assuming it's kosher and not a body swap, I think by 1971 Australia was back to assembling the CKD kits, in which case, they would have painted them over there. Can any Aussies out there confirm that?
Maybe VW just enter white if there's no colour recorded. I do recall seeing an Orange Variant at a club meeting at Jim and Barbara Bourne's place in Sussex that had been completely repainted, and it was hard to find any part that showed original colour, but there were a few.

It is a CKD car, the birth certificate says as much, It would be good to know if these cars were painted before they left germany, I thought perhaps they painted them all white or if perhaps VW Australia ordered them white with the intention of re-spraying them themselves prior to assembly subject to order. In my opinion it's not a body swap and was first supplied by VW Australia in orange, I've been over pretty much all of this car and the only white is under the orange paint, which is everywhere.
Would be really good to hear from someone in oz or even better who worked for VW AU in the late 60's early 70's who could shed some light on this. Would also like for someone with a little more knowledge than myself to have a good look over the car to confirm it's kosherness (if that's a word) and to try and get to the bottom of it's first registered colour. Seeing as I bought it without any History whatsoever i'm at a bit of a loss really.

Re: Found this on Phils Blog.....
Definitely not white primer then? VW normally used white. i wouldn't think they would send bare panels, but I guess in primer would be fine.
Dave.
Re: Found this on Phils Blog.....
Could well be white primer, i'll have a closer look but i'm no expert. The birth certificate does say white so if exported in white primer this may explain that and also why it has such a good covering of orange. Closer inspection required
