Choke Cover

Post by KLiff » 11th November 2020 - 2:35pm

My 1968 VW Type-3 fitted with twin- Solex 32pdsit-3 carbs have recently been refurbished by a garage in West London. After getting the car back and driving it around for a while I noticed that it was guzzling fuel and there was a trace of fuel on my drive. I took the car to another garage thinking I had a fuel leak and they told me that 2 of the 3 retaining screws on the choke cover on the right-hand-side carburettor were missing - that the choke cover was hanging off, being held on by only one screw. The other two must not have been tightened properly and shook lose.

They don't, however, have replacement screws.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of replacement screws?

Thanks,

Kevin

They will be a standard metric thread so take one to your local hardware store.

There is no choke cover as such, I assume you are refering too the retaining ring. Item 16 in the photo and the screw item 17?

The part number for the screw is 311 129 123, i think its M4 from the top of my head.

Im not sure how a loose choke would cause a fuel leak though?

Thanks all for looking. I found a specialist ironmonger on an industrial estate and they turned out to be 10mm M4 pan-head screws.

Alarming that they shook lose though...

Have you got the nylon spacers? They arent shown in the image, but the screw is item 17, which fits through itme 16. then you should have a small nylon tube which slides over the screw.
