The Fresh Airbox / Bulkhead has now been re fabricated and all the under Bonnet area newly painted by IRVs VW Restorations.
The other job I wanted doing was to fit a new bright metal Windscreen Insert Trim.
IRV now says he does not want to do it as the Windscreen might break. How do I get it done please ?

Re: Windscreen Insert Trim
Tell him hes talking s#'*e? There is no risk of breaking the screeen at all. Fit the rubber to the glass, the insert the trim and then fit the whole assembly to the car. No more risk than fittin a screen without trim.

Re: Windscreen Insert Trim
Are New Screens available please ? IRV said I should just take it to Lakeland Windscreens or any other local Windscreen Specialist. Don’t know what he is worried about. He took all the Windows out of our 1966 Beetle when he did the Body Off Resto. then refitted them with all new Metal Insert Trims. To be fair I do have a full set of Spare Window Glasses for the 1966 Beetle but none at all for the 1972 Type 3 Variant !

Re: Windscreen Insert Trim
I'm sure I've read here before about a firm that can make new screens to order, but there must be quite a few secondhand ones around (including those in my garage).

Re: Windscreen Insert Trim
emailed Pilkington Classic to check availability of Type 3 Windscreen. No reply as yet. IRVs latest snag was that my Windscreen Seal is cracking. I’ve not looked if that is true yet but it is the only Window Seal that has ever been changed on my 1972 Variant. All the Side Window Seals and the Only Tailgate Seal are Original. They came out for the Body Off with the Bright Metal Trims intact, and were re fitted. Only the Windscreen Seal was replaced because it was cracked and perished. New Seal then came from VW Heritage 311 845 121 BB which they now list as being for the Plastic Chrome Trim. I think they have got that wrong. The same Seal was used for the Original Bright Metal Trims, was it not ? I have questioned it with Heritage. I think really that there should be no problem for a Windscreen Specialist to remove my existing Windscreen and Seal and re fit with the replacement Bright Metal Trim. What do you think please ?
