Hi
I am restoring type 3. Well it is a type 3 floor with engine etc but has a genuine 911 sc body welded to the base. I am a bit stuck and was hoping someone could help out please.
It has 911 dash, gauges, interior etc. However, one of the gauges is missing.
I am confused with regards to the oil pressure and oil temperature sensor. There is a sensor on the engine at the top as seen in photo attached. I think this is the oil pressure sensor. Also, there is a sensor at the bottom on the sump which I think is oil temperature sensor. Is this correct? Or is it oil level sensor. Photo attached.
If this is correct, what gauges are used to read these please?
For the oil temperature sensor on the sump, if that is what it is, does it utilize a gauge with needle like this one https://www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/ ... black.html
They also recommend this switch, which means I need to replace the current one on the sump, is that correct?

What about the oil pressure sensor on top of the engine. What gauge reads this?
Many thanks

Re: Oil temp sensor/pressure sensor
The last photo shows the oil pressure sensor. Its actually an oil pressure switch, it isnt read by a guage. Its simply on or off. And iluminates a light on the dash.
The other two photos are showing something which is after market. But it is traditional to mount after market temp sensors in the sump. So with out knowing where that sensor is from, I dont know what gauge its matched too.

Re: Oil temp sensor/pressure sensor
Thanks for the reply.
That clears up the oil pressure switch.
With regards to the sensor on the sump. The aftermarket one. If I buy a new after market oil temperature sensor, I can mount it in place of what is there on the sump and use an after market gauge with a needle that measures oil temperature. Like the gauge in the link in my original post.
Does this sound correct?
How important is it in these cars to check oil temperature? Its my first air cooled car.
Thanks

Re: Oil temp sensor/pressure sensor
Too hard to see in your photos. But it looks like the sump plate has been modified, so you might need a new sump plate as well.
But your engine is stock, in good condition and correctly set up. Then there is no need to monitor oil temp at all. VW didnt deem it necessary and in my 19 years of running stock cars, ive never measured it and never had any issues.
