Hi, just wondered what members views were on having a 6 volt or 12 volt fastie..
am looking at either a 1971 1600 TLE automatic or a 66 TL
66 is manual and 6 volts and other is a 71 and 12 volts and automatic injection.
anything i need to know about the 6 or 12 volt option and also having the TLE auto rather than a manual
2 very different cars I know but just want to know about each before buying either one of them
appreciate any advice!
have a great day!
6 volt or 12 volt on Fastback? auto or manual?
Re: 6 volt or 12 volt on Fastback? auto or manual?
Generally people convert 6v cars to 12v, just because parts are more readily available and lights are better, if youre likely to be driving at night.
I have only ever driven manual type 3s, so I cant offer any more useful advice.

ok thanks. I have been looking up on it thru searches on internet and see mixed views.. think will go for a 12 volt for now.

For what it's worth, I think I would base my purchase more on the condition of the car. Panels for Type 3's are seldom, so usually involves a lot of fabrication if the bodywork is rotten. This means either an investment of time (if you are skilled) or money (if you need to pay someone's labour to do it). Electrical systems can be converted from 6 to 12v if needed and would be a lot less expensive than putting a lemon right.
Good luck with your purchase and let us know what you ultimately decide on

Automatics can be very difficult to find spares for & are tricky to maintain
