Type 3 Fastback Model

Post by Type1234 » 31st October 2021 - 3:37pm

Can anyone advise me onhow to identify which model my 1972 Fastback could be, It is fitted with a 1600cc engine with twin carbs but that is not the original engine. The V5 describes the car as a VW 1600cc and no model. The badge I have is "1600"

Am I correct in thinking the models were "E" or "TA" ?

There were more models than that. E denoted fuel injection. There was also T, TA, TL. Im sure there are others. Does your have chrome trim along the swage line? What was the oiriginal engine?

Is the swage line below the door/along the sill? if so yes. It has a sunroof and a rev counter, does that indicate a specific model? I don't know anything about the original engine but it currently has twin carbs. The engine is 2-3 years older than the car.
