Re: What distributor??

Might be too late on this one, but thought I would add to the electronic ignition debate. My 912 had pertronix for a few years when I first owned it, had 3 failures, which were quite unpleasant (one massive backfire so big that it blew my rear seats forward!). I eventually fitted a 123 Ignition dizz...

Sorry to say I won’t be able to bring the car. Things still aren’t ready, which is a real shame.

I’ll come by to admire the working examples on display!!!

123 ignition distributor question

Hi forum, Does anyone have any experience, knowledge, advice on the suitability of the 123 ignition distributor on an early D-jet FI car with an auto gearbox? I'd like to fit one of these, I have one on my 912 and it's been great and sorted so many issues I had previously. I've sent an enquiry to 12...

Re: Engine stalling/cutting out

Have you got & read the D-Jetronic workshop manual ? In there it explains the function of each component. Usual suspects on FI are wrong fuel pressure, faulty temperature sensors, bad electrical connections. The fact it starts when cold, then won't idle when warm would have me looking at electrical...

Leaving it well alone is certainly a desirable option to be honest!
Thanks for the tips, I'll change the fluids for sure, need to put some miles in to see how things really are.

Auto gearbox refresh

Another question for you knowledgable folks! I think my gearbox and diff need a little tlc, there’s a load of oil crudded up around the seal between the box and diff, possibly the seal is shot and leaking as well as possibly mixing between box and diff. There’s nothing dripping but the car is new to...

Rear seat belts

Hi all, I realise this maybe an age old topic, but I'd like to install 3 point belts in the rear of my early shape 69 square, so we can enjoy the car with the kids. I assume there should be a shoulder mounting point on the pillar, but not sure about where to mount the retractor if I went down that r...

HIP TO BE SQUARE

Hi, It's about time I introduced my new (to me) ride, a 1969 FI Automatic Squareback. I recently imported the car from sunny USA, to the mildly moist UK! In it's US life it ran the license plate HP2BSQR https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AM-JKLWiNPTA3dhJ34klX2g_4wZ8oytngDsgBYrnzidHl-dXyzUiW74-dWYH...

Re: Stanford Hall Sunday 1st May, Type 3 and 4 display Notchback Register display

Hi Danny, I'm relatively new here having brought a '69 FI Auto Squareback over from the US late last year. Not had much chance to use it yet, but have most things sorted, including the MOT and its now ready for use! I've been coming to Stanford Hall VW how for many years, I also have a 912 and was p...

Thanks for the pointer, looks like it's is definitely worth a try.

Just searching other options today, I think later model T25 ones work ... would have to reroute the return to the tank.

FI Fuel Pump options

Hi all. I’m a recent new owner of a lovely 1969 automatic fuel injected sqaureback, freshly imported from California. Went straight to the workshop for a thorough inspection and prep for use over here. Will post pics when everything is back together!! I’ve discovered that the fuel pump is weeping a ...

hi @jmarkha1, thanks for the reply. The car is actually on the Samba too... link below: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2479085 You'll see it's got the patina look, but I have a ton of photos for all the spots of concern and everything looks good. Hello & Type 3 values?

Hi, I've just joined the forum, thank you for adding me! I've been searching for an early Sqaureback for a while now, browsing for past 2 years, and seriously looking for 6 months, and now viewing a couple of cars and actually into negotiations on one! I used to own a RHD '67 Fastback in 1996 to 200...
