Re: Stanford Hall 2024, Sunday 5th May

It doesn't seem right to charge members to show their cars when there is a fair bit of money left to run the club and cover the website costs. I guess we need a meeting to sort this out... It's great that things have been ticking over while I have been getting a new heart valve! I guess we all need ...

I've got the usual Machine Mart type as shown above, but I agree you need a VW type adaptor to make the most of it, like the one in the advert for Porsche/Beetle etc.

Re: New E10 Petrol

There's plenty of posts on the (mostly) US orientated vwtype3.org complaining about the fuel causing problems. Ethanol enriched fuel is not permitted in aircraft that can use motor-fuel (mogas). One local pilot showed off a fibreglass fuel tank which had been eaten into holes by ethanol enriched mog...

It's perfectly safe - just got to get the point of balance right. If it falls, he'll pop up where the fuel tank used to be, probably!

Connecting hose for intake runners is 022 133 241B dims are 35mm bore x 4mm thick x 58mm long (from parts book). So you know what you're looking for, but I don't know where to find it!

Rubber anti vibration mounts are supplied for electric motors. Looks like quite a selection on ebay. Check bolt thread needed and rubber dimensions.

Re: Late Tailpipe Fittings Type 3

I've seen similar clamps in Halfords some years ago, for downpipe joints, but don't know what sizes are available. I've got lots for the Beetle and Type 3 HEs, plus damper pipe joint, but have run out of the big-bore (don't need them now anyway).

ISTR the Types 3 and 4 have unusual end diameters, which makes other filters less easily used, but could be wrong. I have a few of the originals.

Re: Type 3 replacement / rebuilt dynamo?

BTW, Type 3 belt tension doesn't need to be very large as it's not got the load of a fan as the Beetle does. Too much belt tension is the main reason for dynamo bearing problems.

Small injector seals for yours are 311 133 261A. There's a pack of 4 on ebay at £9.95. WERE - they've disappeared since. Item 293263208868 I'll look tomorrow in my FI box in case I have some, as well as whether the spare tank is FI. The bigger locating bushes are 311 133 263, but they only locate th...

The normal washer is white nylon - plumbing item maybe? The taper insert in the pivot usually clamps up OK. The thing to be careful of is the shaft which is cast and can easily be broken.

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

205T is a twin vac unit, correct for a 1971 twin carb engine. The diaphragm is prone to failure, but mine is still fine (AFAIK!). The info on our technical page should be right for timing it, but if it has a fault, maybe that's why it was changed.

Hi Dave, I guess you're talking about RDH 96K, it's a '72 model 1600TE ( VW model years start in August and this was an October '71 car, ISTR). Sorry I've not got round to picking up your P-mail. Take a look at the club website for a cross-section of the FI fuel tank (http://www.vwtype3and4club.org....

Re: Connecting to new washer jets

There should be a grommet on the underside of the dash where the tube goes. The nozzle has a plastic tang on one side and you push the nozzle to that side and lift up the other side a bit, which should release the nozzle. Feed some washer tube through. You'll need some stiff wire to hook the end of ...

I've heard of bits of carb, specifically the Type 3 accelerator jet, being injested and spat out of the exhaust, but I suspect someone dropped the jubilee clip in. The only bearing work I've done was on our white Polo which started making nasty rattling noises when our eldest son was speeding home f...

It may be possible to work out from the parts book, as Australia and South African Type 3s in 1966 still had the wide 5 wheels - not sure how long that went for.

I've got a couple here; I think they are the later type ('70 - '73) with the guide sleeve and different release bearing. Of course, you will want clutch pedal assembly and a tube to run it in - it's not a simple add-on, but I expect you know all that.

Why don't organisers say where events are? There must be a reason, I assume. Anyway, after trawling the website, there's an address for it, so I've added some info to help, to help folk decide whether to think about it. Hope the weather stays good for it.
