Lower Ball Joint Rubber Boot. 1972 Fastback

Post by Type1234 » 8th September 2020 - 9:57pm

Looking for some advice. I need to replace the rubber boots on both lower ball joints but none of the regular suppliers seem to keep them. I believe the part number is 311 405 375A. I don't really want to spend about £80 replacing two complete ball joints just because the rubbers are split. Has anyone been down this road before? I can't see any Beetle or type 2 parts that are equivalent.

There are universal ball joint boots on eBay. You get 3 different sizes for about a fiver. I've fitted them to a few different cars and they work perfectly well.

I had a look at the universal ones but wasn't sure how suitable they were and how much give there are in them i.e. where the rubber fits on the ball joint I reckon is about 50mm dia. and the pin end is about 18mm dia. Presumably I need to go a bit smaller to stretch over and get a good fit.

Yeah that should so the trick, if you can aviod buying the cheapest of the cheap you should get some decent rubber that lasts a few years.
