orange fastback
Re: orange fastback
cheers mick
the red was alright but just not the right shade (look at me being all fussy)
so black was the order of the day,
guess we may have a fair idea on what colour rims your ride might have at the end of the day..
colin.

Re: orange fastback
hi chaps
a small update, after the car was finished i was contacted by a member of volksworld magazine here in Ireland a friendly guy that has an input into the content of the magazine. after a conversation with him, he sent out a form for me to fill in, which i did (eventually). a photographer came out an took some pics of the car, unfortunately the weather was proper grim and poured the whole time he was out, so all pics were taken in my garage. the picy guy seemed happy with the results and submitted them to volksworld.
so today i wondered into my local mag shop, and searched the shelves for my monthly fix. lo and behold the new edition was sat there, and after a quick flick through the pages resulted in this.
the full article is going to be in next months rag. im delighted that she has made the pages of my favourite mag (piggy in shitty comes to mind) and cant wait till march 11th.

Re: orange fastback
I would love to see the result of this when it is finalised - I am looking to go through a restoration project like this on my orange type 3 fastback and would be great if I could see yours when it's finished.
Re: orange fastback
Hello mate, it was recently featured in the may edition of volksworld. So you can check it out there, if not I'll post the magazine pictured up here, if you haven't already seen it here on the thread then go back a page or two an there are some finished pictures there aswell , good luck with your build and throw some pictures up when your up and running.

Re: orange fastback
Hi col1600, i'm glad you replied to my comment and have found the pictures of the build and car when finished... WOW!! that is impressive you did everything there was to be done and i hope mine looks like that one day, check out my post in the Members' car and project news if you have time because i'm positive you would be a huge help considering what you went through + how much work mine needs. I do have a question though(there will be more!), if you don't mind: I was just wondering if your inlet manifold and throttle body was standard? - mine came without out one when it was bought. Also if it is running on standard injection system?
Re: orange fastback
Fynn mine is all standard, the inlet is stock, and I'm running original f.I
The f.I wiring loom was in a sorry state all the wires at the connectors had gone brittle so I chopped out the bad and replaced.I renewed all the connectors then re covered the cables with new heat shrink..

Re: orange fastback
Hi chaps, I'm on the look out for new headlight reflectors, mine are a bit on the "not so shiny side" and as I'm planning to take her across the pond again to soon for the hols, I need to replace them as last years night time driving experience was eeerrr....dim!!
I've checked out the usual places and it looks like there 50 odd squid a side. Anyone no anything different, or has anyone gone down the l.e.d route yet. Mine (as like most of your type 3s) are the three hole rim models.

Re: orange fastback
They're not cheap. Nearly £100 for the complete unit with rim, I think.. Alternative might be to go to the one hole rim and use the Golf or later units - I think they fit the screw plates in the headlamp bowl. I'll have a play with some LHD units I had for the camper when going to France, and see if they fit the scrap Type 3 wing that's lying around. As the adjustment screws are internal, you could wire a couple of screws in the external rim to look OK. https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/golf-mk ... StartRow=1
You can get also get cheap Brazilian LHD Type 3 from Heritage, and swap the lenses and drill an extra hole in the reflector rim for about £35, or they say they will soon have just the reflectors for £25 - still quite a bit of work to swap the internals, and I know sometimes the screws can be hard to shift.

Re: orange fastback
Hi Dave, I went an ordered up a pair of replacement hella reflectors here in Ireland they rushed me 75 euro a side, steep enough for what they are but hopefully they'll last enough 40 years, I was talked out of the cheaper ones as the bloke said I'd be lucky to get a year out of them if lucky..I'm hoping for great results from these!!

Re: orange fastback
I'm back here in the uk for the hols again. So far managed a local vw meet from my old stomping ground, then headed to brands hatch for the vwheritage get together which was a cool meet up with extra fun of watching the mk2 nutters out on the track. Grabbed a vw show down in Dorset and still looking forward to bugjam..the car has covered over 1200 miles so far in 10 days and running like a swiss watch. The type 3 truly is a fantastic little car..

Sadly not, it's currently sat on my drive awaiting the fresh airbox to be welded back up after I've been sorting a leak from that area :/col1600 wrote:Yeah..mate court the moment just at the perfect time..

The curse of the air box has struck!!
Damm vents are nothing but hassle as far as I'm concerned.

I'm fortunate to an extent(especially after seeing the state of some of them), its the seal that has failed between the tray and the bulkhead, the tray is in pretty good shape and it's that well protected now I shouldn't have to worry about it again once it's welded and sealed again.

Out of interest, what did you use to seal the edge of the tray on yours before you welded the cover back on(in this pic)?
