Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
I do, which is why ive used the lightest of smears. Unfortunately its not a standard pump cover, because im using a type 1 to type 3 case adapter.

Well a number of reasons put a stop to this project again. I will get back to it. But I have at least been getting the car out and about yesterday I had a sunny ride to cadwell park.

Out of that line-up of fine automobiles, I would have still made a beeline for your Fasty before anything else!

I'm going to try & spend some more time on here. It look as though you are on the wrong side of the catch fence there - mind you, if she's still knocking away that's maybe the best place

Oh yes, that engine will have a very short life on a track! Im amazed its still going. But I shall keep using it with care until such time that I can rebuild it, or it blows up.
The 944 on the other hand cacked its self in march and is now being run in, again.

Oh dear, you seem to be having some mechanical challenges, what did you do to the 944, they're usually quite robust ?

ME!? im taking not blame. I got it out the garage after winter, went to fill it up, and on the way home I was treated to a display from the red arrows. Unfortunately they were performing under my bonnet.
Long story short, I pulled the engine apart to find worn out and stuck piston rings.

Tidy engine bay.... 944's don't need much running in in my experience, nice work on the electroplating too

Thank you, took a lot of work! And still things to do. I set a target of 500 miles. After which I will check and adjust the belts, change the oil and filter. Check compressions and then drive it! im at 350 miles now and it seems pretty happy. Ive got a 200 miles run on friday. So that should see it fit again.

I had a weekend at the Fabulous Skegvegas as usual. But I was encourage to enter the Sunday show and shine, which I did just for fun. Towards the end of the prize giving while chatting to someone I heard "blue fasty JAY....." Id won a staff choice award and was chuffed to bits! The car photos are stolen from Danny Lord and my friend with some smashing nails took my photo.

She looks very tidy.... (referring to the car)
It's been a while, but they do look like the best pictures I've seen. Nice chromework.

Nice!!! Awesome!
Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
After Vegas I then had just over a week to finish the prep on a 1912 Talbot type M which I would be supporting on a VCC tour across Spain and France. This would be getting on for 3 weeks away. I will go light on the details to save time. But Spain in September. You'd expect it to be lovely, turns out it was mostly mid-teens and curse word down. Heres a few curated highlights. The route was roughly as follows. Bilbao-Pamplona-Zaragoza-Enge of androa-Barcelona-Peralada-Carcassonne-Montauban-Bordeaux-Le Mans-Caen

Very sorry, it seems only part of it actually posted. I will sort that this evening at my PC. I spent ages crafting that last night!

It is indeed that very car. I have done a huge amount of work to it since then. While it was very shiney, it was poorly mechanically.purplepeter wrote: ↑25th November 2024 - 9:12amShow us the car then, Broady!

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
As you will now see, ive sorted it. The image links had done some funky stuff.

We had a little incident; a tyre bead failed and blew off. Luckily it was on an arrow straight road.
There was break down en mass as a number of cars filled up with dodgy fuel. We called in to make sure everyone was doing ok. Luckily the trouble truck was there draining tanks and refilling.
We had drinks at the RAC club Bordeaux over looking the cars
We had a little detour for lunch near cognac
We of course drove as much of a lap as we could.
Anyway you get the idea, very wealthy folk doing very wealthy things. Its a privilege to get to play along.
I also had a personal trip to Germany for museum reason, a friend and I went to the Mercedes and Porsche sheds. If you want photos of this trip too, pipe up now.
I appreciate none of this really has much to do with my car, but its reason enough as to why ive done nowt.
Wait theres more. My garage had become unworkable. It was piled with shite everywhere. So I took a week off work, aim number 1 clear the place out. I wont give you a blow by blow account of that. But I had made a major upgrade. We are going to have heating.
I bought a chinesium cab heater for £68. Today I made some wall brackets for it.
I now need to get an inch hole through the wall for the exhaust. A job for next week.
The fasty saw some what of an uptick in use. I have a plan to get the engine out this winter and finally sort out the knocking. Along with a switch to DOT 5 and mocking up my two large engines. There is also a steering issue to attend to. Once the garage is a functioning workshop again. Which it will be this week with heating, ill get the old girl in and have the engine out. The 944 has gone into some winter storage for a little while.

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
I'd say please do post pics of other cars
It's nice to have something different to look at
If needs be you could put it in other projects section.

I will pop a post up when I can time to craft something worth while, on these dark winter nights.
