The Plan Baldrick is to try and bring it back to stock as much as possible.
well maybe lower it a touch ;)
But my son has taken a shine to her and it might end up as his, so any plans i have might go up in smoke. :)
I will be needing a few parts.
like a drivers sdide rear wing and maybe a new sunroof if i cant repair this one.
floors are sound, sills look to be sound as do the wheel arches.
rear bumper mounts and rear valance are rusty, door bottoms have a bit of rust, but that is about all i can see at the moment.
I do not like the bumpers it has :(

But before i can go too mad i need to finish this project.

looks good - the bumpers look like US spec impact? - you could probably tuck them in a good few inches!
auto gearbox too - nice cruiser...
that early ghia.

Doesn't look to be that much of a project for a man with your skills and experience :)

I can't remember for sure, but I think the o/s rear wing is still on the 411 shell. However, I suspect the sunroof will be difficult to find. I'm not sure I have ever seen one.

I see it's a RHD car, is it an original UK car or an import from South Africa ? Looks like Maya metallic, the colour of my first car:)

What are the front inner wings like, they're generally the car killer ?

It looks a good car. It's sitting fairly level which is good, as they tend to sag at the back and sit high at the front. It'll be good to see it kept more or less stock.
411 and 412 rear wings are different as the 412 had shallower light units.
I also thought they could be US bumpers but on second thoughts they could be standard European bumpers, with the front one just mounted too far out from the body for some reason. Rear one looks like a Type 3 bumper - exactly the same shape as Type 4 but without the rubber strip.

I have another aluminium bumber in the back plus some spare middle windows, plus some other odds and sods.
Brakes still work, which is a plus for me.
from what i can see from in the front wheel arches, the inner wings look to be ok.
will be able to check better when i can get the hood open,
I will be only fiddling with little bits at the moment as i want to get my karmann ghia more finished before i dive into another project full time.

Well i got the front hood open.
inside was the rear wing i thought i was missing
a wasps nest and some spare parts.
but no rust...dum dum duuuuuuuum.
the dent in the hood popped out with a bang from my fist.
so all in all, not in terrible shape.
i plan to clean up the floors and slop some paint over them to stop rust while it is sheeted up till next year.
cleaned up the floor and found some rust in the drivers side, about 50mm long. so that is a small repair job.
I expect i will find loads more when i get round to stripping it. :D
I might do little bits while i wait for karmann ghia parts.

I see the soundproofing is already removed and that floor and front end looks remarkably good. Along with the wing in the luggage compartment did you perhaps find this weeks winning lottery ticket

I've a few gearboxes in storage that have come from various parts collections and I think there's an NOS sunroof on ebay for £99 just now.

might be worth looking out for type 3 and bus gearbox setups - same basic vw 003 box - maybe different ratios but worth a look

That is very solid car, looks worse from the outside than it does under the skin! Looking forward to you diving in next year!

Well the NOS sunroof has turned up.
This can go into stock now ready for when the rebuild starts.

I shall be collecting parts, so I hopefully have everything on hand for when the fun begins...not like I did with the Karmann Ghia. :(
