Gearbox repairs
Re: Gearbox repairs
Have you set the photos or the album to public or share. I can only assume yours have changed to private for some reason. Or did you move them to a new folder with in google photos? Can you till see the photos I posted? Theyre hosted on google.
Do they have the little link shared thing under the photos or albums like that? If we cant sort this you can always email me the photos and ill host them for you.

Re: Gearbox repairs
Hi everyone sorry it’s taken so long for me to upload these but here are some more pictures of the gearbox going back together! They’re in the wrong order so from the bottom, you have to put the gear cluster in a press in order to be able to refit the circling - the thing my finger is pointing at is a spring/ tube like component!

Re: Gearbox repairs
Tightening of the pinion bearing nut, this needs a special socket and fortunately I have a friend of a friend who lent me a Hewland socket that fits you just need to remove the reverse idler first!

Re: Gearbox repairs
Finally re-fit clutch release bearing tube and gear selector seal and it’s ready to go back in the car!
It’s all back in now and third to second no longer crunches however it seams I should have replaced the diff bearings because the output flanges are still leaking so I guess there’s a little to much play!

Re: Gearbox repairs
Ive now read this and gorped at the pictures twice. I shall continue to stare at the details, thank you so much for the info. I will going turbo on my car soon and expect ill be eating a gearbox, which will then need a rebuild!

Re: Gearbox repairs
Broady, are you just turboing a standard motor or have you built a bespoke engine? I'm thinking of upgrading my engine more along the lines of increasing its capacity, I don't want a race engine something around 100hp would be perfect do you have any recommendations for anyone that builds type 3 based units?
Doug.

Re: Gearbox repairs
Kinda none of that. I bought a stock engine and gearbox which someone on here has turboed. I cant remember much of the detail. I seem to recall is it stock compression. To be honest it was cheap im just going to fit it and run it till it goes pop. Then ill pull it apart and learn enough to improve the theory based on what I learned from driving it. Id guess if you go to anyone who builds beetle/ camper engines then they will do you a long block. The guts are the same once you've got the right case.
