Casa de Fye's autos...
Re: Case de Fye's autos...
The set up is being mailed to me tomorrow. It should arrive in the middle of next week. I am adding it to my 2332 that is currently in my car.
I'm going to start off very conservatively with it in the spring @ only 8lbs of boost. Even at that, my estimated 140hp at the wheels should just to about 200 at the wheels. After I get it all dialed in, I can turn it up to as much as 20lbs with this turbo, boost retard and methanol injection on 110 oct. If I push that high, it should be in the 285hp range.
That will be more than enough to scare the crap out of me. It also requires a new roll cage and safety equipment since the car has no top.
Change is scary, but I've decided I really want to do this. So why not do it right?

If I've managed to bypass all the security traps on the forum site, these pics should show Brian's Speedster, taken at the first USA Type 3 Invasion at Boise, Idaho in 2002. The smaller pics were taken by Jason Cornfeld.
Thanks to son Steve for making these images visible! I think it was a different error on my part, rather than a solution for general use.

Doesn't picture number 2 make it look like has just come off the set of Cars - and probably called Sharky ?

Yes! Maybe that's where they got the idea from - ha, ha!
Nice to see the old friends, with Brian and wife Shannon under the gazebo - wow was it hot there! I think that's Keith's hat just visible on the right. The large (too large!) photo was at the Motor-Vu drive-in cinema at Parma, with gravel ramps to park on, and the others were at the drive-in American diner where you can order from your car. Fascinating - quite like the Flintstones titles.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Well, my intent to keep the 72 square stock has failed. The EFI engine needs pulled and rebuilt. But, I have a fresh (no oil added yet) 2275 on the engine stand. So, I think I will undo all the FI wiring (bag is up) and swap in a carb low pressure fuel pump and see how it goes. The rest of the car, for now will stay stock... Sleeper!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I have decided to keep the notch as a street car. I decided I needed something lighter for the track. Broken transmission parts are too expensive to keep replacing. SO, the turbo is going on a light weight project. The 2332 is going to get an HEI distributor with the coil in it and an electric fuel pump though.

I understood most of that, but I bet it will perform well, whatever.
Oh, and Happy New Year to you and yours.

The light weight project isn't a t3 so I didn't want to give it praise here.

I am officially down to one type 3. Probably been since 02 when that last happened.

That's a pretty fun one to keep - wouldn't be much good in our climate though, but having said that, it's a lovely sunny day here with blue sky and fluffy clouds! Must be Spring!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Thank you for allowing me to hang my hat here for some time. I am, however, selling off everything VW. I am no longer in a place where I can care for them. Again, thanks!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I'm sorry to hear that Brian. It's been a long association, and I acknowledge what you've done for the VW Type 3 scene over such a long time. So many great memories, and introductions to lots of good honest enthusiasts - the Grand Tetons with buffalo grazing, the '59 Bug like the one I learned to drive on, that roadster - I've never seen anything like it, impressively beautiful Crater Lake, and all the rest. Hope the family is OK. Keep in touch if you can.
Cheers, Dave and Annie (!).

Circumstance has allowed me to re-enter the craziness that is T3. This one will keep a carb'd 1600. Just going to lower, put on early bumpers and drive.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
400+ mile round trip today. I think I know all I need to know about my car now! No radio, just the voices in my head and the sound of the engine. Oh, and that crappy carb getting 21.5 mpg. Doh!
Well, it was an eventful trip! Felt what seemed like I lost a weight or broke a belt in a tire. Then suddenly it was much worse. Got off the freeway in PDX (200 miles from home) just in time for it to separate!
Limped to a tire store (thanks GPS). The tire held air until I got there.
Tire shop tried to put 195/60s on the front and the best two of my 165s on the back. Doh!
Made it just in time to my destination to watch my youngest dance. After, I started the 200+ miles back... Wind, rain, hail and then a full moon kept me alert in the dark drive.
The headlamps are non H4s (until tomorrow) and barely light up the nigh vs modern headlamps. Top that with them not being aimed correctly. Oigh! Brakes need a bit more bleed and I have a nasty rattle coming from either the hinges for the rear seat back or somewhere from the engine/transmission and transmitting to the cab. That is ANNOYING!

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Welcome back to old VWs!
The rattling is probably just a screw loose. We all have those, including the cars.
Could be tinware - my cooling air outlets tend to loosen and rattle.
It's just asking for a bit of attention.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
I can not replicate it via shaking/moving the engine or any exhaust components. I think it is the rear seat assembly.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Could well be; I had a squeaky back seat on a Fastback - that was a weld n the frame that had failed.

Re: Case de Fye's autos...
Alright, all the stuff I could do for zero $ is done for now. Both sides cut, slicks mounted, racing hoop and support bars mocked into place.
Next up is to find a welder that can see and lay quality welds.
Oh, out with the old...
