Well, I have a pesky issue. After setting the carbs per t3 specific instructions, checking the timing, the plugs, wires, cap and rotor I get horrible running conditions after it is warmed up. I know it could be the coil failing when warm, but I've never had a condenser partially fail before.
Will the condenser failing give the same symptoms when the car is warm? It has been decades since I ran a stock engine... this thing is driving me nuts! Not being able to trust it right now has me pulling my hair out.

As always, thanks for any help!

Can you define horrible running conditions a bit more

Lack of power, misfiring, jerky or something else

Have you checked the mixture when warm ?

I don't know the T3 that well, but if there are balance pipes between the two carbs, then a leak on those can cause real issues.

Alright. Finally have my misfire, hesitation fixed!

Trying to be methodical in my work (I know, right?) I did one thing at a time and tested.
1st, adjust valves. No change.
2nd, change plugs. No change.
3rd, replace plug wires. No change.
4th, change cap. No change.
5th, replace rotor. No change.
6th, check fuel again. No change.
After 3, 4 and 5 I put the old parts back in.

7th, my sneeking suspicion, though rare... replace the condenser. Bingo! All high speed misses, hesitations are gone.
I know they normally work or don't, but if you have a mystery miss, this could be your issue
I think, in 30 years of VWs, this is only my 2nd partially failed condenser.

Is that an old one rather than new ...... I seem to recall that editor thinks the new ones are poor quality

So, some cosmetic upgrades need to happen to my roof.
I am torn between doing a pewter roof or a dark red roof.
The interior has dark red cloth and the dash is still garnet red, but I think the pewter roof would look good too. :-k

My front right corner of the car has had some misalignment of the hood and fender.

Less than 10 minutes with the hydraulic ram in 2 places. Woot! Look at those gaps!

I was happy enough with the extended drive today, I finally added a ball on the hitch and some club swag.

All fantastic news! I have had a similar issue with a new condenser some years ago. And mr editor is of the same opion that new ones arent up to all that much.

I have actually found a man here in the UK who will overhaul original ones. Ive been collecting up a few with the intention of sending them in. For a number of years now I no longer bother changing them on my annual service using an "if it aint broke dont fix it" sort of idea and jsut carry a spare in the car so when the time comes that it does give up, I can at least get the car home again.

Today was the first drive over the big hills since sorting out the condenser. It did great! I'd even suggest the mecanicals are Invasion ready.

Worked today on minimizing dents in the early front bumper. Not perfect, but no longer driving me nuts.

Looking good.
Noticed you've moved your front licence plate from the stock position to the bumper. Thinking about doing that myself, but then smoothing the stock position.

I quite like the stock position. i think the smooth front end only comes into its own if the bumper is also removed.

I drove it to work on Monday, then let it sit until Thursday evening and it fired right off! So, I think it is sorted ;)
As to driving, we are only doing necessary trips, but... we do take drives for seeing things we havent in awhile. As long as we stay in the vehicles, we are ok and it changes the family viewing.
