greetings from manila, philippines :)
hi all!
i've been lurking your forums the whole day and man i love the type 3's i'm seeing here.
anyway, here's Lucille, my pride and joy. she's a 1968 fastback and i've owned her for 19 years and i've been driving her daily for approximately 14 years to date.
she's got a stock 1600cc type 1 engine (yup!) running dual 34 dells.
4.5" 4 lug rims up front and 6" expanded steelies out back.
there's a type 3 scene here, but nothing big.
cheers!
ian
edit: finally got the pictures working

Hmm, smart! Stand-off on rear lid? What's under there then? Not luggage I assume!

hi dave! yes, it's a standoff. we got the car in awful condition with an upright type 1 engine (doghouse and all) from the previous owner back in 1992. opted to keep the type 1 (parts are relatively easier here in manila than a type 3's) and just sealed the compartment to separate it from the cabin.Editor wrote:Hmm, smart! the absence of extra luggage space is countered by the ease of access the big engine bay provides.

PS:
i've tried posting the pics again and again using the [img] tags, but the pics always come out broken. does the forum have a hard time dealing with flickr? just curious.
thanks!

An upright engine in there isn't a good idea really, particularly if you are running it in the heat and at high speed. The exhaust heat isn't separated from the cooling air and it's easy to overheat the engine, unless the engine tinware has been extended to seal the outside from the engine compartment (apart from the cooling air of course). I guess that's why the stand-offs are needed.

and i've done exactly that i've extended the sheetmetal from the type 3 body to complete the seal with the type 1 engine tin, rubber engine compartment seal included. no more problems with heat coming in from the headers the standoffs provide extra cooling.Editor wrote:An upright engine in there isn't a good idea really, particularly if you are running it in the heat and at high speed.
