Green colour's probably just the fluorescent lights. It'll look much better in daylight!

very nice looking car but can you tell me about the colour combination of this car .at first look this car is green but when you observed carefully then you notice that its upper colour is dark green as we compare with back of car.

Check the colour chart on http://home.clara.net/hallvw/vwpaint.htm . It is safari beige, L563 which is a 64/65 colour. The green tone is just how the fluorescent light makes it look to the camera. The back is in normal daylight so looks right.

Safari Beige does look a bit green. Its a nice colour though, one of my favorites.
From what I remember, Ivan didn't have it long and sold it to Simon Clough.
I'm not sure how long Simon had it and where it went after that.
Its a very nice car though, and almost identical to another one that was around at the same sort of time. Nice to see its still about and looking good!

Well, they say we all see colour differently! Photos in normal fluorescent strip-lights (and probably the low energy sort too) come out with a green tint due to the prominent green line in the mercury spectrum, while sodium lights give yellow light. I'm sure that's the reason for the green tint in the photo above. I really don't see any green tint in the rear boot lid that's getting daylight on it. I've a Safari beige Fastback sitting in the drive (needs a loving owner, but quite a project, though I've seen worse).

Are you sure thats Safari Beige Dave? Its a 64/65 only colour so wouldn't normally be found on a Fastback. Savanna Beige is the later colour.
I agree though colour is extreamly subjective and veiwing on a computer monitor display is very unreliable.
Also, its been a long time since I've had my eyes checked, so they may well need calibrating!

Derr - isn't Savannah beige what I said. ;-) ;-) It may be your eyes, but I reckon it's my brain that needs calibrating. Still, don't feel like falling off the perch yet.

I don't think it looks much like the colour it was any more.

I even found I have the Gasurit mixing formula.

Safari Beige / Color code 563 / Year of usage 64A, 65B

81.8 parts 1051 weiB
10.0 parts 1053 ocker
05.0 parts 1066 gelbgrun (Yellow Green)
03.0 parts 1052 schwarz
00.2 parts dunkelgrun (Dark Green)

as you see there's a bit of Grun in there...

Great, I can cancel that Dolland & Aitchinson appointment I made! ;) :)

Hmm - 5.2%. I wonder what other 'normal' colours contain. I noticed my Elm green gets a rim of yellow in the can if it's left for a long time.

I was trying to make a Halfords classic red touch-up set match the Golf Estate (Variant) - it needed a bit of black to tone it down a bit - very satisfying when it works.

Interestingly, as a percentage there is actually more Green in the Safari Beige than there is in Birch Green, where there is just there's 3% of the dark green and 92% white!

For comparison:

Savannah Beige / Color code 620 / Year of usage 67-69A, 68B, 69H-K-B

83.5 parts 1051 weiB
03.9 parts 1052 schwarz
11.4 parts 1053 ocker
01.2 parts 1054 rotbraun

Elm Green / Color code 60 D / Year of usage 70

54.0 parts 1069 dunkelgrun
03.6 parts 1051 weiB
05.0 parts 1052 schwarz
37.4 parts 1053 ocker

I'm not sure how relivant those Glasurit codes are, but there's a full list here:- http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0
