2011, 50 years of the Type 3.

Post by Danny Lord » 28th November 2010 - 8:31pm

Next year will be the 50th year since production started on the Type 3, to help celebtrate this we are having a HUGE display at Stanford hall (plus a few other shows TBC) which is on Sunday the 1st May 2011.

I have just got confirmation that we have space for 50.....yes you read that right 50!!! Type 3's including Type 34's

I am hoping eveysingle one of you who has a Type 3 and Type 34 will bring it along, not fussed if its mint or minging,

would be so so  if we can get 50 there, if any of you are on any other forums or know folk with Type 3s that dont come on here, please let them know about this either on here or via email......... type3lord@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks :)

Stanford Hall is in the Midlands, probably about 100km north of London. You'd probably be best getting the Calais - Dover ferry and driving up. I'm not local so can't recommend anywhere to stay but someone else might be able to help?

This year they arranged a very good rate at the Travelodge at Lutterworth (I think), which is near Stanford Hall. It made out rather basic farmhouse B&B look expensive! We need to find out if that's being negotiated again.

Looking at the route, I would agree about the Calais - Dover crossing. Google says 8 hours of driving the 760km, and you'll have a bit of a rest on the ferry anyway.

CORRECTION: It was apparently the Holiday Inn, Northampton, and included a bottle of wine in the room.

I'll be there, I'm in Leicester anyway, remember there is camping next door. Stanford is just off junction 19 of the M1.

If anyone would like to make more of a weekend of it the Ibis at J18 M1
http://www.ibishotel.com/gb/hotel-3588- ... ndex.shtml.
is close by and the room rate is currently only £35 for the night.

If there's any interest I will lead a run out on Saturday to the Coventry Transport Museum. http://www.transport-museum.com/

For anyone that's not been it it is an excellent day out, lots to see and do for children of all ages (and I'm including myself in there...) plus its free!

There's a resturant inside so we can get some lunch there, but it's literally in the centre of Coventry, so other facilities are close by.

We can also have the Millenium Place outside the museum for club parking / line up & photo call.

I thought then we might return to check in to the hotel, or whatever other accomadation arrangments people have, then meet up again later for a drive out to a local hostelry where I'll book a table.

Then it will be back to the hotel bar, and in the morning a short cruise to Stanford Hall.

Let me know if thats any interest, I'll ask you to book the accomadation yourself, as group bookings could get complicated, but I'll sort the rest.
I'll need to get numbers for the evening meal, but not for a while.

So, pass this around... the more the merrier, and of course all Type 3's and 4's welcome.

Cheers, Mike
Mike

Sounds like a great way to start the weekend, lets hope we get a good few on the cruise to Coventry Motor Museum,
Something for everyone, and the museum is free......
Looking forward to it.

I'd second the Coventry Transport Museum - we went there a few years ago and were impressed. Good to hear group parking would be availble.
