Why I am busy this weekend and cannot make Action!

Post by kps70 » 31st August 2011 - 6:36pm

Here goes - just a little poke with the dreaded MOT poking stick. He said it just needed a patch but then I came home and attacked it with and old screwdriver and a grinder. Mmmmm. The 412 restoration will have to be put on hold!!!

Not so much as a patch, more of a rebuild.

Snap!

I'm not going to Action and I'm also welding up Type 4 sills this coming weekend.

I'm somewhat worried now, you car is so much tidier than mine, so god knows what I'm going to find when I start digging.

Oh bugger  I hope that's not what I'll find on Barb as the sill is going in the same place on her.
Best of luck in gettting it sorted with minimum fuss and maximum ease :)

Yeah - it's kind of scary what lies behind some innocent looking bubbles when you poke but at least when it's done, I know it should be good for another 20 years! The other side looks better. Good luck Dubster - let's see some pictures and compare notes.

Oh no...Bad news mate:(
Mine has just passed - YIPPEE - though I did worry that he might prod it too hard!!
My sill looks a bit dodgy to me in front of the back wheel.

I moved MoT test station when the garage I'd been to for years got a new young enthusiastic tester who banged his hammer all the way along the obviously rust-free sill on my Golf 3 Variant. I know they're allowed to do it, but it just didn't seem necessary to hit it every couple of inches. Had there been any surface rust I could have undersood it. The new garage has VW-sympathetic guys, charges less and is only a few hundred yards from home, so I can drive down, leave it there and walk back home, all in less than 5 minutes. I guess the new chap did me a favour really!

Progress going well. Just the final lower outer bit of the sill to do then the bit on the inner arch. Almost set light to the car when a fire started on the inside! Luckily I had a glass of apple juice next to me....

Pictures to come. Outer sill now done so only inner arch to do now. Then a load of filling to make it look good! Lucky with the weather.
