Pingy petrol flap and the rubber bit Q
Pingy petrol flap and the rubber bit Q
My petrol flap has taken to pinging open on the motorway and only the motorway for some reason. I can't see any obvious reason why and it's fine going over bumps etc in normal town driving. Or is it just a side effect of the warp speed stress on an old 412
Also, what is the rubber bit that seals between the wing and the petrol hole as mine has had it.

If it is the rubber grommet bit then I've read somewhere that someone made one from an old large sink plunger...but then some people say a Porsche engine will bolt straight into a Bug!
I'm more inclined to believe the sink plunger myself:)

I have used a type 3 one on mine, but it's not as fancy as that with the fold down flap. I guess one could be fashioned out of a bit of old rubber and super glue works well on rubber!

Re: Pingy petrol flap and the rubber bit Q
when I first saw the pic I thought that looks NOTHING like what I'm after.........A picture of my own should explain
I have very little left it seems!(and it's crumbled a little more away since I took the pic too.)
Will a type 3 one fit a 412?
No ideas on the pingy flap yet then?

The type 3 one fits quite well. They are around on ebay quite often too.

Right your pingy flap! oooerrr misses LOL the two rubber stoppers look quite worn you could replace these it may help to stop the flap moving slightly and so enabling the catch to move and release.
How worn is the catch and the retainer as this would result in the same thing but all this is just guessing as it seems odd that it only opens at high speed and not with a bit off jiggling.
Sorry I cant be more help its going to be a bit of trial and error id say.
