412 speedo cable

Post by kembiff » 22nd January 2011 - 6:08pm

Took Fudge out for a spin tonight (to pick up some injection parts in sunderland to add to my stash) anyhow, the speedo is very jumpy and I just wondered if there is an alternative cable I could use?
http://www.vwtype3and4club.org.uk/_docs ... rtswap.htm says 'no'.

But things may have been discovered since then.

Cheers.

You must have looked a bit squiffy at the list as it says all RHD use 1302/03 speedo cables...

Unless of course I've read it wrong

Sometimes needle jerkiness is caused when the hub end of the cable is catching and preventing the cable rotating smoothly in its sleeve.

From just on the inner side of the hub, push the cable fully outwards, then pull fully inwards, then sit it half-way. That may prevent it snagging.

Spray grease might help if it's lubrication problem, but you can't remove the complete inner so it's a bit awkward to get much in.

Remove and refit the inner end - could be something there needs reseating.

Of course, it could be the cable, but Shawn has given you a simple answer to getting one!
