412 squareback numbers

Post by hernandez412 » 27th April 2010 - 12:58am

I was wondering, does anyone know how many 412 squarebacks are still on the road in the uk and howmany are still surviving in total. I've never seen another in the flesh, i've seen a 411, but not a 412. Unless I count mine

I've got a 412!!!

That makes 2 :)

Seriously though there have been a few threads on this and I think the last figures I saw were something like 40 or so in this country, a mix of 411 and 412. Approx 400 in Europe and probably around a 100 in the US.

I thought there was a lot more, but knew they were a bit rare. Must be those stylish looks and handy engine that fits into campers thats killed most of em off. I wonder if they grow in popularity, ie start being worth big dosh, they'll all start crawling out of the woodwork. I thought there would be loads of them in the states, weird. I'm hoping to have mine on the road in a months time, or so :paranoid:

I reckon we tend to underestimate the totals - there are probably 40 active ones in the UK, but I expect there are as many again awaiting release from their sleep.

I would have thought the USA could have many more than 100 - it's a huge country and cars can survive for years out in the open in some States. Again, 100 might be a realistic number for those in a useable state.

No sunroof on mine but one would be nice.

As for the figures they came from the shoptalkforum in the US and I think the figures are related to those that are in use just as Dave suggested. From what I understand the Type 4 never really took of out there so I don't think they had huge numbers to start with.

I think Kieron (kps70) on here has written to DVLA for figures of registered ones in the UK but had bit of a knock back till the records are computerised.

Be good to see your one back on the road soon.

I've sent two requests under the freedom of information to the DVLA requesting this sort of information about UK cars. They have fobbed me off both times, some excuse about transferring from paper to IT system. However, there must be a way of checking as how do the police do it? My brother is a policeman, so I'm going to ask him. I'll also send another request to the DVLA soon. As soon as I find out anything, it will be straight up on this forum,

I have about five but some are never going to see the road again. :( One member in the past had a vast number sitting in a field at one time but I dont know if they are still there.
