Its aliiiiiiiive!!!!

Post by adi #2 » 16th November 2009 - 6:01pm

Well, all that trouble because of a single problem.

Just to recap, because of this problem, i have:

-Saved a Vauxhall Chevette from the scrapper
-Learned how the D jet system works
-Took half my 411 apart
-Wasted about 3 weeks of my life

And guess what it all boiled down to???

Come on, seriously, this cant get stupider.

A bad Halfords dist cap!!! Yes, for some reason the dist cap i bought from Halfords was shorting all 4 terminals to the middle terminal (happens sometimes when microscopic cracks form).

Now i just gotto redo all the connections and it should be alright.

Ugh...i hate it when these things happen.

What the hell and i supposed to do with that Chevette now anyway? Anyone want a 78 chevette HL with a fresh mot? I sure as hell dont need it...i have a REAL car again

I have to redo all the vac plumbing and PCV system tomorrow since its all rotted and falling apart and temporarily held together by duck tape.

Also the clutch and brake master cylinders want rebuilding, and the fresh air ventilation airbox is rotten and leaks into the saloon.

And of course the fuel tank needs pulling out, repairing and then reinstating as the vehicles functioning fuel tank.

And then just touch ups like fittings, fixtures, carpets, bodywork/paint, exhaust, heating system and minor things like that.

By the way, the single and only reason why this car in the picture below is still alive and has been saved from the crusher repaired and put back on the road, is because my VW broke. So, Halfords by selling crap badly made parts, indirectly saved this:

Relief!

That'll teach you to use genuine Bosch stuff always!

I had a Jetta with an odd reluctance to run properly - the Lucas cap had eroded inside one of the 'teats due to a suppressor failure.

Glad its fixed might pay to keep your eyes open for spare ignition and fuel injection spare parts just in case, still you know there`s not much wrong with taht part of the car now.
