Bosch D Jetronic FI Tester

Post by Rhodrich » 23rd December 2009 - 6:24pm

I have just purchased a Bosch EFAW 228 D Jet tester like the one below....

I also got the adaptor that allows me to use it on early and late D Jet systems, as fitted to Type 3's and 4's (plus other D Jet equipped cars)

Does anyone have any detailed instructions they could point me to on how to use it though?

Once I've gone through all the tests on my Type 4, it would be something I would consider lending out, if anyone was interested.....

Was that the one on e-Bay? I was tempted, but I'm OK with a meter.

There's some info in the Bentley manual produced by VWoA. I think the factory fuel system manual has the info in - there's something like 45 pages on the fuel injection! Obviously the amount just on the tester is likely to be less - let me know after Christmas if you've not found it from anywhere else and I'll see if I can find it.

It may be on Russ Wolfe's www.classicvw.org site. He has scanned in a lot of the original factory manuals, but you may need to email him for the url - I can't see them specifically mentioned on the home page.

There's even a photo of me and some US Type 3 guys outside his workshop. You'll need to hit [ctrl +] a few times to make it big enough to see!

Bingo!

http://www.classicvw.org/gallery2/v/Fue ... on-Manual/ gives all the pages individually, and

http://classicvw.org/fuel/chapter7_2.pdf
http://classicvw.org/fuel/chapter7-3.pdf

Give the chapters needed as pdf's

Thanks!

It wasn't from eBay, but having seen how much they go for on there, I'm tempted to put it on!

Glad you found out the details Rhod.

Now you mention it, I think there was a guy adverrtising it on the forum - quite a fair price ISTR. Main thing is that they don't get scrapped so they are available for the enthusiast, though as I said, there's not much on the FI you can't test with a voltmeter and ohmmeter.
