OK.... Thanks guys i will check the plastic cap on the weekend, And good to hear 20/50 Mineral oil is fine to use, i think all the VW's in Australia are Right hand drive & the exhaust system exits on the right side as well, if you look at the pic's i put in the Gallery of the Fastback the Exhaust looks standard ( as its a very old system ) maybe in England the exhaust exits on the left rear of the car, im only guessing as i dont know, it was a very hot day on Saturday and im hoping that had some-thing to do with the Cap popping open ???? Only time will tell.

Well some good news regarding the oil smoke on its 1st trip over a month ago, i discovered the 2 nuts that hold the fuel pump down were loose & engine oil was leaking out & running down the left side rear onto the exhaust and causing the smoke, i did one up around 1/4 of a turn & the other 3/4 of a turn then sprayed degreaser & cleaned it, Last Sunday my wife drove it on a club run for Historic cars travelling around 160km round trip from home, She said it was faultless & drove really well. I did check that oil leak and it was clean as a whistle, one thing i have had to do was add another spring to the dual carb set-up but not on the carbs on the middle arm that the cable goes into as the 2 carb springs did not have enough tension to pull the arms back so it would rev high but after putting that spring in the middle it goes back to a nice idle.
