Fastback 3 point seats.
Fastback 3 point seats.
Quick question.
Are fastback 3 point seats the same size as a beetle 3 point seat.
Just discovered that the replacement floor fitted into my fastback has the 3 point setup.
The original floor had the sliding rail arrangement with the adjuster and removal lever on the seat.

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Just checked the beetle seats. And of course they are different.
So i either need 3 point fasty seats. Probably as rare as hens teeth.
Or weld in the old rails to match existing seats. Open to any other suggestions.???

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Are the early mark 2,3 golfs and jettas 3 point seats a straight fit??

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Nope! not even the plastic glides fit properly!
You can squeeze beetle sear base covers onto the type 3 base & judicious use of a jack allows a beetle backrest to fit a type 3 base

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
I saw a post on here of someone that fitted corrado 3 point seats to a type 3.
Might look for a set of them.
I dont really want to break out the welder and grinder again, cant be backpeddling.
Like I said I have the early set of seats that fit the rails, and adjusted by the outside adjuster on the seat,
but my floorpan is the later type with the 3 point setup.

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Picked up a decent set of front seats from a Scirroco gt today.
Early nineties vintage I think, guy had them for years in his shed.
Quick check on dimensions says I need to widen each side by approximately 7mm.
So I am going to draw up a block on Fusion 360 and 3d print a test block. Once it fits
I can decide whether its strong enough, or use it to prepare a mold and pour a real strong block.

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Managed to design the block in Fusion 360, and printed a test piece for fit.
Tried for fit and good to go. Printed off 2 blocks for one seat and offered up
blocks to the car rails for fit. Cleaned the rails, grease, and jobs a goodun.

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Lovely work as ever. Looks like comfy supportive seats too, and far easier than what ive been trying to do!

Re: Fastback 3 point seats.
Far more comfortable seats than the original to be fair.
Greast adjustment in the seat base as well, raising the base at a flick of the lever. The blocks fitted well to the
base leg, and were tight enough to fit to be honest. If I had made them slightly thinner it would have cured this.
But I said I would run with them at the minute to see if it was succesful.
An earlier option of fitting a boxframe between the existing rails was binned after I came across these seats.
I now have a set of original seats with the locking rail system of the early 72 fastbacks that will be sold.
But its doubtful there will be interest in them here due to the rarity of fastbacks. Maybe if I can get them across the water
they might suit someone over their, with a huge type3&4 discount of course
