Getting to the Wiper Switch

Post by jake@facewest.co.uk » 20th April 2020 - 4:01pm

Hi,

I've got a leak of washer fluid from my wiper / washer switch. Anytime I pressurise the washer bottle is comes out of the back of the switch.

So I wanted to take it out and have a look to see what's wrong with it. Hopefully it's just a pipe come loose.. But seems almost impossible to get to.

Any suggestions? Do I need to take the dash out? It's on a 1967 model.

From below the dash the fuse box is in the way.

It's not that important as I don't really ever need it, just for the MOT really. But nice to keep everything working as it should.

Thanks

Jake

Unscrew the wiper switch knob, then undo the metal retaining collar (being careful not to scratch the dash) and the switch will drop backwards out of the dash.
Might be best to disconnect the battery first just in case you ground anything against the metal dash.

As per Mr wigs advice. You can make a tool like this. Which I think ive show you before to help avoid dash scratches.

Thanks Sparkywig and Broady.

I'd not seen that tool before Broady, I'll try and make one something similar, thanks.

It's in a really awkward spot, I'll try some more upside down yoga to get at it then. maybe if I take the seat out it will be easier to get to.

I think on my 71 Fasty it was in a easy to get to spot near the centre of the dash. On the 67 it's on the far right of the dash directly above the fuse box. So when I release it it will just fall and get entangled on that. Maybe I need to take the fuse box off first. But that might cause a few issues in itself.

I'll take a better look tomorrow.

Thanks!

Should be just 2 screws securing the fuse box to the bottom of the dash, undo those and the fuse box will drop far enough to pull the wiper switch out.
