I purchased my 1971 fastback a couple years ago but haven't made much of a start on it up until now due to other projects and lots of fishing!
The car has been sat for quite some time and before i get stuck into the bodywork, i want to get the engine running so i can see where i stand with that before its removed for welding work around the engine bay.
the leftover fuel in the system has completely solidified. theres about 1/2" of solid black tar in the bottom of the tank, and the pump is not looking good at all!
heres my plan, any input would be greatly appreciated on the following points-
will try and get the tank clean and poss refurb using the "frost resto's kit"
will be replacing all fuel lines front to back. most pipes seem to be about 7 to 7.5mm. will prob use the Brickwerks stuff
have begun overhauling the pump as per the brilliant guide on here but i dont know whether im going to be able to free up the PRV piston or not. its jammed up pretty good! may have to go down the "Airtex e2000" pump conversion route unless theres any better suggestions for replacement pumps??
ive not checked the pressure regulator yet but Heritage seem to have a few options available if need be
ive removed the injectors and planning the get them cleaned and tested by a specialist. might have the cold start valve check too? can anyone recommend a good source for new injector seals?
im a bit worried about the ECU aswell. ive got serious corrosion issues on all the bodywork surrounding the area where the ECU is housed (a lot of it has gone!). im hoping it hasnt been filling up with water over the last 10 years or so. it doesnt look to be in bad shape but ill guess we'll see.
is it advisable to open them up for inspection or am i likely to cause damage?
whats the sort of availability on used ones and are there many variations across the years?
am i right in thinking that the points, rotor arm, dizzy cap, condenser, plugs and leads are all the same as the carb engines?
sorry for all the questions. i have been doing a fair bit of research and found lots of great info on here so far
