Type4 FI fuel filter

Post by Rob 400e » 9th September 2019 - 2:12pm

I’m trying to find out why the stock square fuel filter must be used on the FI system as opposed to any other type. I’ve looked at three manuals, the Haynes, Keeping your VW alive and Henry Elfrinks FI tech manual and can find no reference to the reason for the use of the square filter other than it fits in the bracket. Does anybody know any other reason?

ISTR the Types 3 and 4 have unusual end diameters, which makes other filters less easily used, but could be wrong. I have a few of the originals.

I have a couple of NOS filters (square) I assumed it would be something to do with the flow guess I assumed correctly. Cheers David.
