Another carb problem

Post by monkeywrench » 24th July 2019 - 12:25am

I've just swapped the fuel injection system on my square back to 34ICT carbs.my problem is fitting air filters. The kit can with small pancake filters, also the kit had CB performance intake manifolds. But the filters will not fit under the bodywork. Can anyone suggest a fix please.

I would suggest that is not the Type 3 Specific 34ICT Kit you have got in that case. I always understood that the proper Type 3 Kits come with Air Filters Manifolds that did fit without any body mods.

No they don't. I can tell you from experience that the Eurocarb IDF kit doesn't fit without some modification to the body and engine lid.
If the ICT kit has similar manifolds and air filters that will be the same.

I stand corrected then. I’ll think again before buying a Kit !

Strong recommendation to stick with FI in this thread

Hi guy's,how did you guess they came from Eurocarb. I phoned them to question if this was a type 3 specific kit and was told it is. Not having any VW inlet manifold to compare with, maybe they might help. Or is a case of ordering an empi pair. How much did you have to cut the body work sparkywig.

Quite a lot actually, and the engine lid was modified to stop the air cleaners knocking against the metalwork.

It's even worse with phenolic carb gaskets to help prevent heat soak to the carbs.

Here's the comparative picture from that Samba thread - leaving the air cleaner tops off ?

Doesn't seem to fit the definition of "made for type 3" to me

That was my question, but they said no one else had brought this issue to their attention.
