If you ran out of a fuel it will have sucked up all the crap from the bottom of the tank. If you run a fuel filter (if you don't you should) it will need changing as it will be blocked. Thus starving the engine of fuel and that's why its sluggish. If you don't run a fuel filter all that crud will now be in your carbs and you'll need to remove them strip them and clean them, paying close attention to the jets and galleries. Hope that helps!

Certainly change any filters you may have..and would it be worth giving some carb cleaner a go before committing to removing and stripping them?

Unfortunately chaps, Our Danny has the mechanical aptitude of a slug, so We really need to find him a little helper..
How about Rebecca Danny? Could She do it with one of us on the phone to her?

Danny, Graham Lyall at Midland Early Bay is in Redditch and has an open day tomorrow.
Can you get there?
If not, I can send you his details.

That's quite a surprise given his presence on the type 3 scene. I hope the suggestion above can work

it's about 40 miles from me, wouldn't wanna risk going that far in it, plus wouldn't want him working on it on his open day.

almost....Matt from Atherstone came to my aid in the week, he changed the fuel filter, it seemed to run a little better, checked a few other bits and foound out one of the HT leads had come loose, refitted that but seemed to run the same, I'm taking it over to my mechanics today for him to go through it, hopefully will have it back next week.

In my experience, it usually ends up being something simple (and sometimes stupid!).
Have you checked the dizzy..could it have been moved..have you checked the timing?
Are you running points..if so, could they have closed up a bit?
Worth checking the basics.
I an Solihull..you are welcome to bring it over one evening for a fresh pair of eyes.
I am no expert but sometimes someone fresh to the car may be able to spot something you may have missed.

I'd expect its a simple as the carbs need cleaning out. (I'm assuming you're on carbs and not FI
