Front scuttle rust

Post by 74westy » 3rd September 2015 - 9:00am

I have some rust in the front scuttle next to the wiper spindle. This area looks to be double skinned but I cant find any pictures to support this. Or is the double skin just a red herring and what I am seeing through the rust is the air box fixed to the underside of the scuttle?

Can someone who has worked on this area explain what is here. Or better still post some photos.

ps. the larger hole on the radius edge I can see into so I know whats in there.

Thanks.
Craig

1970 models have the earlier airbox (bonnet is held up by transverse hinge rather than the long springs at the sides of the luggage area). Filler will probably just blister again. Maybe a bit of mig weld, lead-loading or solder would be the answer there. I've not had the pleasure of working on the early scuttles. The later ones usually only go in the luggage area, but they can be pretty ugly!

Ha. Found a body being parted out and picked up this piece. The photos show the construction of how the panels fit together. I'll deconstruct it and and use the parts I need building out from the inside.

Underside of the vents. This is where the rust starts I'm sure. Between the seal the the panel.

Looking along the panel. The brackets hold the vent airbox to the panel

Hi Wojmyster,

I note you are in the UK. I'm in New Zealand as is the parted out car.

Sorry.
