Hi All,
Can someone enlighten me to the sizes of the front ball joint pins. I know there are upper and lower ball joints, and I think the lower ones have an 18mm diameter pin. Would it be correct that the upper ones have a 16mm pin and are maybe a bit smaller/lighter? Is this the only difference between them?
Cheers,
Craig

Re: Ball joint pin sizes
That sounds about right - a bit like hip joints compared with shoulder joints in humans. The rubber boots are different to accommodate the different size pins. The lower ones are attached to the pair of torsion rods, and act as the suspension. The upper ones simply connect to a lighter torsion rod that acts as an anti-roll bar (in fact that bar is thinner in Notch and Fastback in view of the more comfortable ride expected in saloon vehicles compared with Squarebacks).
Dave.
Re: Ball joint pin sizes
Thanks Dave,
I bought some nos units that were advertised as upper x2 and lower x1. All have the same size 18mm pin so I now know these are lower ball joints. The seller has a pair of joints with 16mm pins so I'll get these and have a full set..
Cheers,
Craig
