Dual cylinder master cylinder

Post by Havana Henry » 5th March 2015 - 1:36pm

I seem to a have a sticking problem with the cylinder on my 72 square.

Is my research correct in that there are no new RHD dual masters available? Is it worth trying to use a re-build kit, and if not, how hard are the pipe mods to fit a LHD one?

Cheers,

James.

You may need a longer pipe to reach over to the left-hand side caliper. It's worth noting that there are two tappings for the front circuit, and one for the brake-light switch (US spec uses one for each circuit, 3-pin type and a warning bulb for when one circuit has failed to pressurise). The two types of tapping don't have the same size holes. The pipes for RHD are in the brake pipe kits - I got one from a German who had that one spare, while at the German Typ3 meeting some years ago. It's a long story as to why I had taken a spare master with me though!

In an emergency the existing pipe will reach but only if it was bent to go across the open space rather than round next to the chassis frame - definitely more likely to suffer damage, so not acceptable long term.

Thanks Dave, I'll take the plunge on a new lhd one then.

Apologies for the silly mis spelled title!
