Type 1 into a Square

Post by Creationblue » 23rd November 2014 - 8:13pm

Hi all

With the Square coming along nicely I have decided to put my 1776 motor that was built to a high spec a couple of years ago for my bus into the old girl. The engine in there just now is out of a '71 and leaking oil. My ideal is to change the oil cooler and tin-wear over, leave the dipstick where it is incase it ever needs to go back in the bus and fit short inlets with 36ICTs with a CB linkage. I will probably have an exhaust made but I don't have any heat-exchangers, the car will only be used in the warmer months so not really a problem in that sense but is it best to run with HE?

Now I've put a Chevy flat 6 in a t2 but not had the engine out of the square so is there anything else I may need to do?

Thanks

Just

edit: 40IDFs will get re-installed so will pump out a healthy 92hp

Is this engine built around a universal case?
If not you wouldn't be able to access the type 1/2 dipstick as it will be trapped by the type 3 fan shroud. Not that you'd be able to add oil anyway as it wouldn't have a filler tube.
Also the pressure switch I think even if left in as a bung is a clash with the fan shroud.

I bought a Notchback once where this had been done, I didn't even notice until I had it home

So I had a day off work and took the dog to the yard and set about turning my 1776 T2 motor into a type3 8)

Here's what I started with, it's a '71 motor judging by the engine code but I'm not sure of its displacement tho I have a receipt for 1700 B&Ps

And this is the engine out my bus

I stripped the tin off the T2 unit

Image

Now I know the svda will foul the generator so ill index the dog gear on the dissy to turn the vac round for clearance. Other than that I don't really see a problem

One nearly naked t3 unit

And on with some t3 tin

Ok so I didn't get much further than that. Besides the short IDF manifolds didn't arrive

Will get on with it next week and get it fitted

How are you going to put the oil in and check it? :?

So I had the tin blasted and painted, and the magnesium fan shroud came through the process without to many problems, but is corroded a bit, so sprayed it with hi-temp laquer......

Just need to source a pulley bolt then the rest of the engine can be built up

Image

A 009 dissy is it at the mo but I will turn the dog on the SVDA so the can misses the generator and run with that

Im going to use a beetle oil filler where the breather currently resides to solve that small issue 8)

Wont be long now :D
