Had to get recovered today!

Post by kembiff » 26th February 2011 - 8:13pm

On the way to taking my kids and a neighbours kids to the swimming pool today I had a blow out in Fudge the squareback.
I left my tool kit in the bug so first problem was getting the hubcap off because I had no screwdriver - the bottom edge of the jack worked eventually.
2nd problem was that the nuts were well-tight (I have not had them off since I bought it so let that be a lesson to me!) I got one off then the end of the original wheel brace actually snapped off. I was left with no option but to get footman james breakdown on the job which they eventually did. (Do you reckon I can weld the end back on my brace?
Several people kindly stopped but I was ignored by a couple of mark I golfs, a type 4 camper and a police car, which was dissappointing. Plus it was lashing down, so even more annoying.

Eventually got sorted and had a short swim!

Im guessing I can put one of my spare beetle wheels on in the short term whilst I get round to replacing the tyre - anyone know for sure?

I think the offset is slightly different but as stop gap I would think it would be OK. As you know many modern cars have stupidly small spares!

Thats a pisser shame those VW owners didnt help you out not the usual dub ethos. I would defo say no to welding the end of ya brace up I cant imagine it would stand up to the torque.

Cheers Mart :D

I know what you mean but it must have originally been welded on I guess?
