Re: 411 LE Variant 1971 FREE to collect
I have made contact with the owner and am just awaiting contact details to arrange collection. It's quite close to me.
I thought it important to save it, even though I have a bit of a storage problem. When I have collected it on the trailer I'll upload some pictures and see what others think.

Re: 411 petrol flap
No there is no adjustment at that end, it's a fixed length cable with an adjustable mounting position on the wing.
If it makes you feel better I have the same issue on my 412LS, but I think the pawl is badly worn. Yous used to work OK, so it can only be adjustment.

Is the deed done, or are you about to have an intense period of polishing and shining in advance of the photographer turning up ?
I had a car featured in a magazine back in 2001, I wonder how much longer these magazines are going to survive ?

Sounds like an interesting diagnostic approach...... but more progress made.
It's the only way, one by one eliminate the problems until your have none left. Sometimes you have to make things worse to get to the root of a problem too.

Oh, I'm sorry Broady I really can't let that one go. The original series was not a cartoon, it was Supermarionation, puppets on strings, not involving Sandie Shaw. If you have ever watched Stargate this particular segment, as a tribute to Thunderbirds, has a hilarious ending https://www.youtube.com/...

When are you putting the other T3 into the bodyshop, I thought so on the earlier picture, but now with the full image I'm quite sure that's not the right colour  Unless the modern film decided the colours should be more primary for the benefit of todays audience The 3 is not aligned properly ei...

Re: AAR causing high idle
Yeah, water ingress is a foreign country for us guys, but it'll be like carb pre-heating or oil cooler / warmers on modern cars, the coolant acts to provide the heat rather than electricity. In that section I think he is showing pictures on MB parts. Sounds like a plan, if you can get them moving fr...

Re: AAR causing high idle
a quick google gets this
https://oldtimer.tips/en/d-jetronic/69- ... ryairvalve
So maybe the piston is just stuck. I would be tempted to fill spray some plus gas or diesel in there and leave it to dissolve whatever may be causing it to stick

Re: AAR causing high idle
Auxiliary air valve lets additional air in when the engine is cold, to go with the additional petrol to overcome higher friction. If it isn't closing , then it's like the idle bypass is wide open, so high tickover. The heating element (I think yours should have this) should have about 12.5 ohms resi...

Re: Fuel cap rusting onto filler neck
I wouldn't go for copper, never sure where all those particles will end up, especially on a FI engine.
I have seen this a couple of times, I think I just put some engine oil on the filler cap and neck and rubbed it in. Massage for your fuel filler

I have bought from The Samba in the US before. Absolutely no problems, it's a VW forum like this one, except a lot bigger, not generally infested by sharks. Used ones from $16.50 ?? Pay by Paypal and you'll have protection anyway. There's a whole lot more money and pain involved in a carb conversion...
