Re: Is there something missing from this...
Sorted!
In the end I cannibalised the 412 switch I had for the contacts that sit above the indicator switch and make contact with the base of the steering wheel as these were missing on the 411.

Re: Is there something missing from this...
Everything seems to work as it should with the horn ring on the steering wheel as running a jumper wire from the contact around the column- which ends about an inch below the level of the steering wheel when its fitted- to the bse of the steering wheel enables all three of the horn ring contacts to ...

Re: Is there something missing from this...
The only contacts above the indicator switch is the dipped/main beam contact switch. I've got a 412 column with the twin stalks and that has the brass contacts akinto the Type 1 set up. With the set up on mine as it is I can't see how the curret gets to steering wheel as there's anout an inch betwee...

Is there something missing from this...
I've a slight problem with my horn, it doesn't work properly. It will work IF you push the steering wheel up a tad and then operate it but nothing when the wheel isn't forced up. It went through the MoT but I would like it working as it should. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l282/shawn-b/DSC_0117...

Re: Cold start FI problem
I have finally found time to check all that you have suggested and the only thing that I can find is the thermo switch seems to have a permanent open circuit, so looks like this is at fault. I will double check the timing when I get my timing light back from brother...

Cold start FI problem
Now it's getting colder I really should get around to sorting the cold start out on my 411 fitted with a 1700 and 'd' jet injection. The problem seems related to air temp and a cold engine. When its cold it will start but is very smokey, not blue oil smoke but darker, like its over rich. It also run...

My 411 sails through its MoT
It was MoT time today and despite my nerves my 411 passed with no advisories. The MoT guy also said he'd never seen one before

Re: Buying a 411 from 1968
Personally speaking I would be looking for completeness, make sure that it is all there as missing parts could proove to be hard to find. I would then start to check for corrosion in and around the suspension mounting points and the inner wings. The operation of the gearbox as these are hard to find...

We're heading down to Brighton Saturday with my 411 and Denise's bug, it will be the first in the 411 as it wasn't quite ready last year.
See you there?

Re: No spark on my Baja, yes I know it's not Type 3 or 4 but
I have now got a spark and it runs again. Looks like the problem was a dirty connection from the fuse box to coil dropping voltage

No spark on my Baja, yes I know it's not Type 3 or 4 but...
I've got a problem with my Baja I rescued from my son's neglect. It won't start. Firstly we had it running last weekend as he had broke his other car and needed to get to work. I fitted a new battery and it started. He then went to work on Monday morning and lost all electrics, everything. He got it...

Re: fuel pressure sensor + others
The eber switch has a clockwork mechanism that enables it run for about 10 minutes in order to defrost the car without running engine or killing battery. And replace its fuel lines before running it or risk fuel going everywhere or worse a fire

Re: technical info required
Its just an earth contact, its been a while since I last looked but I think there's a connecting wire at the top end of the mounting point. Another thing is the crash relay, under the rear seat of a variant and in the engine bay of a sedan, with the trip switch and the 3 safety fuses which are all t...

It does sound like your fuel line has sprung a leak, not good. How to access it, don't know but an easier option could be to run a replacement pipe under the car?

Unfortunately that seems to be what many in the VW scene consider "cool". I'm with you Judi in not liking the "look" and on some of them it must almost render the cars unusable
