Re: late type3 bonnet spring fitting ?
I managed mine with two people and a bloody good pair of mole grips. I strained to get the spring stretched while my friend moved my hands to guide the hook to the right place. Its amazing how far you can stretch it when your only aim is to make it longer. Far to hard to stretch it and locate it on ...

The myth of rare parts
Ebay has now emailed me this a few times, hardly surprising it hasn't sold.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... SS:GB:3160
Does anyone know why it might be worth £120, personally I see it as £20 tops

Fuel pump???
Your not demanding when at idle or reving. Start driving down the road and it wont take long to empty the float bowls if the fuel pump isnt delivering at full capacity

Re: Type 3 Variant Car Cover Recomendation
Ive got the coverzone top spec, "stormforce" I think it is, car is always bone dry underneath. The straps could do to be stronger, in the 80mph+ winds we had in feb one of the clips broke. They're the same style as the ones on a back pack. I just put a ratchet strap around the car to hold the cover ...

I would say no! If that's what yovue done then you have almost certainly damaged the brass drive grear and will have some shavings in the engine somewhere. A strip and inspection is in order to be sure that you wont be taking it apart again in a couple of months!

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
Little tinker with the paint this evening and its not that bad. Excuse the poor photos, camera phone and strip lighting. Ill take some with a real camera in day light at the weekend. The orange is much deeper and the silver is much less dominant that these photos have you believe https://wuxvaw-ch33...

Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
I dont think it was the fault of the paint, I think it was the operator. Might have picked up my white spirit rather than thinners (in the same style bottle) This causes the resaction. I havnt had time to sort the issue yet as I wanted to get the porsche waxoyled and on the road before it was too la...

Re: dipstick tube?
20w50 is fine, our engines run at a higher temp with this form of cooling, which means the thicker oil things to a suitable viscosity. Can you find out the ZDDP content? Opie will know and if they dont they will be able to find out. You want over 1000ppm and it'll be all the oil you every want

Re: Starting Issues
Still worth checking the gaps. The firing order is 1432 in a clockwise direction on your cap. Have you determined which is number 1? Worst case is you put all 4 leads on in that order. The move each one round 1 place clockwise until the engine runs (assuming that is your problem) If your dissy insta...

Re: Starting Issues
If your getting a good fire work sound out the exhaust it points to bad compression. Rather than the valve sealing the explosion in the cylinder it is leaking out and exploding in the exhaust. So instead of driving your piston back down its blowing your ear drums out. Ill admit that is a bit of a fi...

Re: dipstick tube?
Dont want to open a can of worms here but use a fully mineral oil with a high ZDDP. The synth stuff doesn't transfer heat as well which is critical to these engines and the ZDDP will coat all your bearings can cam to keep them protected at high temps. 20w50 is more suites than a 10-40. Millers class...
