Re: Gearbox repairs
Broady, are you just turboing a standard motor or have you built a bespoke engine? I'm thinking of upgrading my engine more along the lines of increasing its capacity, I don't want a race engine something around 100hp would be perfect do you have any recommendations for anyone that builds type 3 bas...

Re: Gearbox repairs
Finally re-fit clutch release bearing tube and gear selector seal and it’s ready to go back in the car! It’s all back in now and third to second no longer crunches however it seams I should have replaced the diff bearings because the output flanges are still leaking so I guess there’s a little to mu...

Re: Gearbox repairs
Tightening of the pinion bearing nut, this needs a special socket and fortunately I have a friend of a friend who lent me a Hewland socket that fits you just need to remove the reverse idler first!

Re: Gearbox repairs
Hi everyone sorry it’s taken so long for me to upload these but here are some more pictures of the gearbox going back together! They’re in the wrong order so from the bottom, you have to put the gear cluster in a press in order to be able to refit the circling - the thing my finger is pointing at is...

Have you figured out how to keep uploaded photos from google drive on here yet Broady? I have more to add to the thread but don’t want them to disappear like last time!

Re: Gearbox repairs
If yours is a late gearbox it will have the same large nut retention device as in the second to last photo but if its an early box it has a much simpler 4 bolt fixing for the pinion bearing negating the requirement for a special tool. All of the replacement seals, syncro ring and new pinion bearing ...

Re: Gearbox repairs
This is the text from earlier in the thread. The second to last one is of the pinion bearing nut that i had to chisel off the entire length of the thread, according to the Haynes manual a special tool is required but it is possible to tap it loose with a punch and wind it off with your hand...... er...

Gearbox repairs
Good evening everyone, as promised here are some photos of my gearbox, unfortunately in its already stripped condition however I will take some assembly photos in attempt to try and explain what I've done. The reason the gearbox was removed is two fold, one to replace worn out leaking seals and two ...

Re: IRS gearbox tool
Peter I’m guess you’re referring to the shift rod plungers as they appear to be behind some aluminium pressed in plugs and as far as I can see all they are responsible for is retaining a selected gear in position and yes Dave as the only issue with my gearbox is its “crunching” when shifting from 3r...

On the same subject I have dismantled the rest of the gearbox in an attempt to fix the “crunching” when down shifting from 3rd to 2nd however there are no visble signs of wear or broken parts! Any ideas?

Re: More power from an FI type3
Ok thanks for that all I’m trying to achieve is when we are 4 up with 4 people’s luggage it struggles to keep up with the flow of traffic but this isn’t a regular situation so perhaps I’ll stick with stock as it runs really well at the moment I just need to sort some oil leaks!

More power from an FI type3
Good evening everyone, I am probably going to take my engine out at the end of the year to do some oil leak fixing and gearbox repairs and am also considering some engine improvements. I would like to retain the FI and reliese I will probably need to go for a larger fuel injector and can I go for 16...
