Re: suspension

I don't know about the rear but I don't think many do the rear end as just dropping the nose high stance of the front makes a lot of difference, depends on the look you are after. If you have a spare couple of hours then there is some (actually loads) debate on the shoptalkforums re the merits of th...

Not car related but worth an ask...mobile phone insurance

I have come to the slow realisation that the better part of £60 I currently pay Carphone warehouse geek squad each month to insure 4 contract phones is possibly a tad excessive (£13.99ea). Looking around some places on line are quoting less than £20 a month to cover them all including damage, theft,...

I would like to Danny but I think Denise would kill me! I can do either day, which ever fits in best with what you need on the display and I'm really ho...

Re: exhaust system for 412 LE

Type 2 heat exchangers fit (obviously those fitted with the Type 4 engine that is). Just check the shape of the manifolds. I seem to recall they need a slight modification in order for the connection from the blower fan to fit but they a re an improvement on the original finless heat boxes on the Ty...

Movember

Any of you manly Type 3 or 4 owners taking part in this event this year? For the first time in my life I have deliberately set out to grow a Mo in support of this worthwhile charity. If you haven't heard of it before then it is a global charity that aims to promote awareness about men's health. http...

Re: My 412 LE Restoration

Just checked the operation manual (I'll try and scan it if you like) and there should be a little window in the to the left of the clock adjustment knob. If it shows red then it is ready for the timer to be used so for normal use it should show green. It can be changed by turning this knob to the ri...

Re: A litany of questions...

I agree with Peter that the 'control rod' is your dip stick. There should be a plastic/rubber sleeve there. The Eber is indeed missing. Should be easily visible through the inspection plates and as such you shouldn't be able to see the clutch slave. Therefore the hole on the nearside wing is the fre...

Re: My 412 LE Restoration

I assume the heater lever is in the up position and the engine is running? Failing that I think that the little tell tail window in the clock should be green which can be done by playing with the clock time adjuster (I'll have to find my hand book and double check this)...does yours have the timer (...

Re: A litany of questions...

Went out and took a look at the 412 today, to familiarise myself with the engine... First things first, the Haynes Manual lacks a lot of information about what the engine bay should look like on a 1795cc LS, if anyone can point me to a better source of information and pictures I'd appreciate it. Do...

Re: 412 headlights

On my 412 I just got hold of a pair of Hella 5 3/4inch (think that was the size) H4 lamps and added an extra relay so that the car can utilise the dipped and main beam of the standard H4 bulb and then the inner pair of lights are just auxiliary driving lights.

Re: Type 4 parts

I think he was looking for NOS body panels. So does everybody! Honestly, there are not many type 4 panels around and NOS are very rare indeed. For many the Type 4 is unloved and so does not have the benefit of firms making repro parts of any description for them. Engine parts are available solely b...

Re: My 412 LE Restoration

The heater doesn't have a warning light other than the fact that the switch illuminates when it is on. There are several safety features associated with the heater starting with the heater will not run unless the heater control lever (the one that opens the flaps to allow heat through the channels i...

Re: My 412 LE Restoration

There is no red light on either of my dashes there so suspect that it could well be an after market one fitted by a previous owner for something (possibly rear fog light?)

Other than that I agree with Dave about the connector, if it runs well don't worry about it!!!

Re: Does my old 411LE still exist?

There are/were three body styles to choose from in the Type 4s (excluding the obvious 411 412 versions) and that was the more common/most left on the road Variant, then there is the 4 door sedan (saloon, fastback) and then the scarcer 2 door sedan. There was also several engine/trim choices etc over...

Re: Type 4 Gearstick bush

If its the bush at the bottom, under the gear stick, then it is like a small cup with a bottom to it without which the gear stick goes right through it. There is also a bush that fits around the selector shaft and I think I used a beetle one for that but can't remember where I got it from Here is th...
