Re: 411 sedan handling?

Most manufactures recommned replacement after 10 years (I know they have a conflict of interests) but given the legal life for HGV tyres is much shorter. Id guess that 10 years is a good guide. I expect your tyres will be so hard theyre puncture proof, but offer little in the way of grip

Re: Parts sources

Excellent work! I dont know if it needs clarifying. Ive only got solex 32 carb gaskets, not 1500 single carb stuff.

Id include VWHeritage as well, they are a VW affliate and carry a fair few type 3 specific parts

Excellent news! And it still looks great :) Did you put any rust proofing inside the doors when you were cleaning out hte drain holes? I brush a bit of dinatrol into mine every year or so, just stops the water getting into the seams.

Re: Chrome screen surrounds

Yeah I know theyre are different, I had foolishly believed their catagorisation. I didnt mean them getting "stock" I mean that buying stuff from ISP and WCM fairly often. Would they not import just one chrome trim for yourself? Otherwise it looks like you'll have to do it yourself, or find someone i...

Re: Help! Fastback Body Removal

Hopefully you wont need heat. It will just be sticky glue as angelo says. I remember spending about 2 hours getting mine apart. It was just a car of slowly slowly and let the glue weaken as your work it back and forth. Good Luck!

I could well be a series of small issues that have lead to it. But as you say, fixing things one at a time often gives a clue as to the root of the issue. Finger crossed its "simple" in the end!

Even this past week ive been belting along at 70mph on the M180. Ill admit my car seems happier at 65. But 70 is well with in the reach of these car...

I have exactly that arrangement, tame local folks and i simplay cannot be arsed with setting up the gear again. I want to get on with the job list. Bits of carpet to fit, wheels to paint, body to colour sand and endless other details. Along with the silly turbo engine.

Re: Loose cylinder headbolts?

Not something I have ever heard before. But you need to do all 8 nuts in the correct sequence otherwise you end up stressing the head and it wont seat properly on the barrels. To be honest it sounds like its worth having the rocker covers off and check the two nuts which hold the rocker shaft on. Iv...
