Re: 71 FI Fastback re-commission

I know very little about the FI system. But I can offer some basic expeience advice, though you seem to switched on already. I used the por 15 tank clean and liner kit, and it was faultless, just take your time doing it and make sure its absolutely dry between phases. Brickwerks pipe will be up to t...

Yeah there is a sealing strip originally fitted. Part number is D19, theres some info about it here

I suspect any close cell sticky foam will do, as long as it doesnt hold water, it will do the job

Re: 71 Fast Back Recommissioning

Have you got those switches installed with the terminals facing upwards? Thats the correct orientation, and there should be no way for them to touch any other metal that way. There should be a small pressing around the hole which one of the cut outs on the face of the switch locates in. Your can mak...

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

That's a relief to hear someone say that.. I've never in my life taken an unloaded engine up to that kind of revs just to check the advance limits. I don't think I've seen it written down anywhere either For stock engines there isnt a need really, but for anyone who fits a 009 its required as timin...

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

Dont worry about the language, your english is far better than my spannish. There are slight differences depending on which Distributor you are using. If you are using 311 905 205 T the main thing to check is that it is at 7.5 BTDC at idle. Rather than focusing on the upper advance limit. I would ex...

Re: Type 3 - variant 1971 - low rpm, stalling, before engine warms up

I agree, that doesnt look like it has been modified. Im not familiare with the couth american cars. But that doesnt look like the traditional bosch distributor. If you are using a strobe light, you will need the engine running in order to use it for setting the ignition timing. they cant be used to ...

Seems to fit the bill nicely! I did try and LED on mine only to realise ofcourse it wont work with the dimmer, so I went back to the stock bulbs, but a tiny bit higher power from memory. With all the faces clean ect they are just about useless

Gotta be worth keeping after the effort you've put in, and parking it up at this time of year wont do it any halm. Mine hasn't moved since the end of October. Well that's a lie, I run it up and down the drive just to keep the cobwebs out.

Hello, As peter says, give the system a proper service and set up as per the factory settings. This is full guide on how to set up the carbs. https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/t3dualcarbtuning/index.php It would be interesting to see some photos of the airfilter please. Might be that some...
