Also dont use engine oil, it will degrade the rubber. The correct thing to use is a silicone lubricant. Either a tine of grease or an areosol. Sounds like youre on to something, because at idle the dynamo doesnt provide enough volts to charge the battery, and thus the regulator isnt doing anything.

Try lubricating the mechanism first. Some wd40 and then operate the level a few times. Often the catch will jam.

With those carbs, you're best taking them apart. They are weber 34ict copy's. And they are supplied with jets and emulsion tubes for a Bedford van.
