Re: 1971 VW Type 3 Fastback
As you will now see, ive sorted it. The image links had done some funky stuff. After Vegas I then had just over a week to finish the prep on a 1912 Talbot type M which I would be supporting on a VCC tour across Spain and France. This would be getting on for 3 weeks away. I will go light on the detai...

I use an aerosol when fitting rubber parts and things tend to slid in rather easily after that. Carbuilder solutions are a reliable soruce for ethanol proof ...

Re: Type 3 heater hose
I have used the flexi aluminium tubing and clamped it with Jubilee clips but I could also wrap it in isulation. What did you use for the two smaller 25-26mm connections? I got some proper stuff from ISP west. A friend brought it over from cali quite some years ago on holiday. I know this doesnt hel...

Re: Ignition Cutting Out
Sounds like youre on to something, because at idle the dynamo doesnt provide enough volts to charge the battery, and thus the regulator isnt doing anything.

Re: Alternator options
As long as the loom wasnt butchered, under the rear seat you would be able to add the regulator back in. Get a Bosch solid state one. There is a straight swap dynamo/alternator but its £500. https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/p/vw-type-3 If youre running standard electrics, the dynamo is fine. I...

Try lubricating the mechanism first. Some wd40 and then operate the level a few times. Often the catch will jam.

Glad to hear that! Thought you had spotted a dead giveaway for them being fakes. With those carbs, you're best taking them apart. They are weber 34ict copy's. And they are supplied with jets and emulsion tubes for a Bedford van. So you'll find it doesn't run quite right no matter what you do. I'll look up thr right stuff later in my notes. My guess is you can't keep that block, ...
