Snap!

I'm not going to Action and I'm also welding up Type 4 sills this coming weekend.

I'm somewhat worried now, you car is so much tidier than mine, so god knows what I'm going to find when I start digging.

Re: Brakes now work, but clutch doesn't...

Well past parts did a great job, my 412 now has brakes and a clutch :) Going to give it a full service this week, plugs, points, new leads, rotor arm & cap etc, hopefully will have it running better, although to be honest I think that it needs a good run as much as anything else, it smells terribly ...

Early 412 for sale, may be useful for parts?

Hello all,

There's a poor condition 412 for sale over on Volkszone, may be of use to someone more local?

Excellent, would be nice to see photos of them.

Would like to have got to BVF in my 412, but still waiting for the clutch master to be returned, I suspect that pastparts are struggling to get some seals :(

Re: WHEEL WOBBLE VW TYPE 4 412 LE VARIANT

Hi Adrian,

Whereabouts in Lancashire are you? I'm in Yorkshire but I'm near the 'border' regularly, you are very welcome to borrow a pair of standard rims/tyres to try on the front of your lovely 412. A least you'll be able to rule out your existing wheels or not.

Cheers

Brakes now work, but clutch doesn't...

Well after a couple of weeks of messing around with the golden heap, I now have a working brake master cylinder and a fully functional braking system... only to find yesterday that the clutch master has started to weep :( I had a spare, which has turned out to be completed seized, is sending my orig...

Mmm, at the usual RCC prices as well though!

I have to say that I've heard some concerns over the accuracy of their descriptions at times too.

Was about to send my MC to pastparts as Kieron advises, however managed to locate a NOS item in the US for £67 delivered, hope it fits :)

Re: Shy bairns get nowt!

Well done!

I was about to send my brake master cylinder to partparts for a refurb yesterday, however was browsing the evilBay (tm) during breakfast and stumbled across a NOS item for £67 delivered from the US... hope is fits!

They had two in stock, but the other one was for cars with a servo.

Re: 412 brake bleeding issues

Brakes now rebuilt and working, the master cylinder is holding pressure, but has a small weep on to the brake pedal. Are the seal kits for Beetles (as mentioned by Lahti411 fourth post down) the best option, or would I be best getting the MC professionally refurbed? *UPDATE* I've been looking for MC...

Re: 412LS Variant - UUB 820M - back to the road in 2011

Got fluid through the caliper in the end, all the brakes appear to work fine and the system is holding pressure, unfortunately there was a tiny dribble of fluid on the brake pedal after I bled the system :( it hasn't come back, but I suspect that the master cylinder in about done for. Better news is...

Mmm, just had a thought, I'll try bleeding the misbehaving caliper update down, so the air is near the working bleed nipple.

Re: 412LS Variant - UUB 820M - back to the road in 2011

Well amazingly I have been able to bleed the system and (currently) it appears to hold pressure. Lots of wire brushing and Plusgas over the last few days, and some heat applied today have got all the bleed nipples out complete. All four brakes appear to work after their strip and rebuild, however th...

Re: 412LS Variant - UUB 820M - back to the road in 2011

As Dave has said before, the rear wash wipe it is likely to be an aftermarket job, however the switch on the dash looks very factory, I'll get some photos up soon. It still works too! Today has been successful, I've completed the brake rebuild, so first job in the morning is the bleed the entire sys...

412LS Variant - UUB 820M - back to the road in 2011

Hello all, thought is was about time I documented the recommissioning of my Type 4. I got the car in September 2008, I was planning on starting work on the car straight away, but other project work got in the way, so it was put into storage in a local barn, Being collected in 2008: http://i109.photo...

I'd be interested, but I live a long way away, also I suspect the bits that I would like are probably the most popular items that others in the purchasing group would also want, plus the wings are missing which I could do with!

Yes, that is a type 4 transmission and you can use its clutch slave sylinder. New cylinders haven't been available for ages and sourcing a repair kit is very difficult too. But i've heard lot's of good about this place: http://www.pastparts.co.uk/ I'm sure they can rebuild your clutch parts. Many t...
