Heat exchangers

Just taken my fastback out for a run and it was a little chilly so I put the heater on. It's the first time the heater has been properly used in 33 years. After a while I started to feel a little light headed so I guess I need new heat exchangers! The question is where is the best place to source a ...

Re: Fastback boot lock

Sorted :D
Even easier than I thought, the bolts on the lock mechanism were loose, just had to reposition the lock, tighten the bolts and apply a little grease.
Works a treat now!

Fastback boot lock

The boot on my fast back has always required a good tug on the door pillar lever to get it open since it was new but recently it is becoming very hard to open and I am concerned that one day it will not be possible to open it. I presume that in 48 years of use the cable has stretched a bit. My quest...

Wing beading

Is it still possible to get the seals that fit between the wings and body on a fastback.
The wings on mine are going to have to come off for some rust repairs and it looks like the seals may break up when the wings are removed :-(
Just as important, can you get them in white?

Body repairs/respray

Can anyone recommend somewhere in the Manchester/Cheshire area for some body repairs (couple of patches of rust on front wings) and a complete respray on a fastback?

Low ethanol petrol

Just had to replace some of the fuel hoses on my '71 fastback. Only 18 months old and the ethanol in modern fuel has made them split
Does anyone know which brand/grade of petrol has the lowest ethanol content?

Re: Fastback air filter

Contacted typ3konny, he was very helpful. Replacement rubber joints are in the process of manufacture. in the meantime I degreased the old split ones with Cif Power and Shine kitchen cleaner, it worked better than proper engine degreaser! Then I covered them in Gorilla tape and it seems to have work...

Fastback air filter

Hi My fastback has the standard oil bath air filter comprising 3 sections. The center section of oil bath and trunking to carburetors and 2 short sections immediately above the carbs. The sections are joined by rubber connectors which have perished and split. Does anyone know where I can get replace...

Re: 1971 Fastback sees daylight after 28 years

Update...... Chris finished all the work on the Fastback in early 2016 and due to other commitments (basically being damned busy), she sat in my garage SORNed for over a year with occasional foray onto the drive to circulate oil and fuel and stop the tyres flat spotting. But last week I got insuranc...

Latest news, she runs!
Fuel tank needs cleaning, fuel pump and starter needed replacing, but connected to a jury rigged fuel supply she stated and ran, a bit rough but no knocking or undue noises. :D pics on the type 3 gallery forum.

1971 Fastback sees daylight after 28 years

In the process of resurrecting my late father in law's fastback. Hasn't moved for 28 years. Here are some pics taken as she was pulled out of the garage. https://www.flickr.com/photos/34887841@N00/22224248050/in/dateposted-public/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/34887841@N00/21791108233/in/dateposted-...

Hi Brimfull
Good advice, perhaps I should leave the "patina" in place and put it on antiques roadshow :?
I thought Patina was a brand of pasta sauce?

Re: Advice on selling used type 3

Hi Dave The £2K to £3K price, is that for the car as it stands or as a clean runner? I had thought of taking it on myself but lack of space and time precludes that. To get it running again I would probably pay our local VW specialist (used to take my 1975 1303 to them for servicing) to do the work. ...

Advice on selling used type 3

Hi, I have a question about Type 3 resale values. My (deceased) father in law's 1970 Type 3 has been sitting unused in a dry garage for 20+ years and I wanted to know roughly what it might be worth sold as a project car in its current state and as a good but not concours, runner, trying to decide wh...
