The order threw me, I thought you had painted it and then stripped it back again

Looks very tidy, what paint did you use :)

Thanks, it’s made to be a driver so I’m not going too far. That’s the only part I didn’t do! It’s done in 2k though

Those seats I bought off you came up nicely.

1973 412 resurrection

Haven’t had time to do a proper build thread but I’ll try to show you what I’ve done. My ‘73 412 started off as a bit of work and ended up a lot!

But this is the progress so far.

Re: Type 4 Glovebox liner. Replaced using Porsche 944 glovebox.

That's really good to know, I assume it was from an early 944, so 924 might also be an option ? Looks like you have been busy painting the dash too It was from an ‘87 944 S. So oval dash. Just takes a few templates to get the shape exactly right against the dash. And if I happen to find a good glov...

Type 4 Glovebox liner. Replaced using Porsche 944 glovebox.

I thought this may help someone. I’m all for originality but my 412 glovebox was trashed. Having no luck with a replacement I found an old 944 glovebox in my shed. With only a little trimming with a Dremel this thing fitted a treat. It’s pretty much the same height and fits perfectly behind the dash...

David, interior looks ideal for the Variant so could I take that along with the dash please?

I can come and collect anytime in the next week.

Many thanks.

Re: 411 LE, parts to be saved, act quickly

No problems. If there’s any news on seats please let me know. Just had a thought - if you're replacing your seats could I buy the cables that pull the backrests forward from your old ones? I've got a broken cable in my 412. Thanks Dave, that’s a big help to my resto. Yes of course, They all work fi...

I’ve mentioned this in a PM. But here’s a photo of my under dash airbox. I could do with the part you can see and the metalwork that goes underneath. Mine is a right hash!

412 LE variant. Project

Picked this up the other day. I’m if honest I paid too much for it and it’ll take a lot of work. But no rush. Interior is trashed and it’s been off the road for many years. Sadly although it’s been stored inside the roof was leaking so it’s pretty soggy inside. Anyway. It’s just come from SA and her...

412 bonnet and door seals.

Has anyone had to replace their bonnet and door seals on their type 4? If so is there a source for repro rubber or have you adapted another seal from a different model?

Many thanks.

Re: MOT exemption

Yes they are legally exempt - providing they meet the criteria which means no substantial changes in the last 30 years. You can get away with performance upgrades, brake upgrades etc but not major drivetrain/ chassis / engine changes. You cannot say fit a Suburu engine or a tubular chassis and claim...

I stand corrected, I have found them in an old parts manual. They can't have been that popular then ?
No it seems not. I couldn’t find any other picture of them on the internet. Oh well, at least I’ve learnt another Type 4 fact.

Re: 411 opening front 1/4 lights.

You're finding some unusual stuff ! AFAIK all type 4's had one piece window glass on the front doors, with a cut out to allow ventilation without noise. The gear lever doesn't look right either, as you sure this isn't a VW Brasilia ? Nope defo a 411. Brasilia has a different dash too. It’s in the 4...

Stumbled across this pic when searching for parts.

Has anyone ever come across these wonder operated 1/4 lights for a type 4. Pretty cool and I’ve never seen them on any other vw before.

Im unsure where it is. Although I’ve noticed this thread from 2011 on here which looks to be the same car. 8 years haven’t been kind to it. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=6215

Edit. Just read the caption on the old photos and it’s in Northumberland.

Thanks.

That’s not my actual engine bay. The VW specialist called me today and told me the hose was a bit worse for wear.

Mine is a SA import so I’ll go and have a look tomorrow.

Thanks again.
